“Jujutsu Kaisen” is a dark fantasy manga series by Gege Akutami, depicting the battle between curses born from negative human emotions and sorcerers who exorcise them with magic. It began serialization in Shueisha’s “Weekly Shonen Jump” in March 2018 and concluded its six-and-a-half-year run in September 2024.
The manga series has sold over 100 million copies, including digital versions. The first season of the anime aired from October 2020 to March 2021, and the first film, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie,” released in December 2021, was a huge hit, grossing ¥26.5 billion worldwide.
The second season, “Kaigyoku/Tamaori/Shibuya Incident,” aired from July to December 2023, and “Jujutsu Kaisen: Kaigyoku/Tamaori: The Movie Compilation,” a compilation of “Kaigyoku/Tamaori,” was released in May 2025. With the return of “Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie” scheduled for October, and the production of the TV anime sequel, “Shimetsu Kaiyu,” also confirmed, excitement is building.
This new information was announced as one of the top five highlights during the “Jujutsu Kaisen 5th Anniversary Special” broadcast on August 31, 2025. The teaser trailer for the third season of the anime, “Death Kaiyu Part 1,” scheduled to air in January 2026, begins with Itadori sitting on a staircase, saying, “I can’t be with everyone anymore.” Following the “Shibuya Incident,” Itadori is struggling in despair as he is confronted by the special-grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu.
The story depicts the fierce battle between Itadori and the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, one of the most popular characters in the manga, in a uniquely anime-like manner. Characters like Fushiguro, Choso, Zenin Maki, and Tsukumo also make appearances, raising expectations for the start of the new chapter, “Death Kaiyu.” It was also revealed that the “Jujutsu Kaisen the Movie: Shibuya Incident Special Edition x Death Kaiyu Advance Screening” will be released in theaters starting November 7, and a key visual by production studio MAPPA has been released.
This film will feature the premiere of a specially edited version of “Shibuya Incident,” the greatest battle in Jujutsu history that became a hot topic during its TV broadcast. It will also feature the world premiere of the first and second episodes of the highly anticipated third season of the anime ahead of its TV broadcast. The key visual depicts Itadori with clenched fists and a stiff chin, and Okkotsu with his back turned and a sword in hand, against the backdrop of the devastated Shibuya crater that evokes the fierce battle of the “Shibuya Incident.”
The visual foreshadows the battle between Itadori and Okkotsu, who share the same master. Following “Jujutsu Kaisen The Movie Compilation: The Ball of the Destroyed and the Ball of the Destroyed,” don’t miss this opportunity to experience “Jujutsu Kaisen” on the big screen in chronological order, with the return screening of “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” starting on October 17.
