Information on the second season of the TV anime “Funeral of Freiren”: Broadcast begins January 16, 2026, every Friday at 11 PM on “FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT,” a nationwide network of 30 Nippon Television Network stations.

“Funeral of Freiren,” a manga by Kanehito Yamada (original author) and Tsukasa Abe (illustrator), is currently being serialized in “Weekly Shonen Sunday” (Shogakukan). Set in the world “after” a hero and his party defeat the Demon King, the story follows the journey of Freiren, a magician who has lived for over a thousand years and who defeated the Demon King alongside the hero, and the new people she meets.

The story unfolds in a unique “after the Demon King’s defeat” timeline, featuring heart-wrenching drama and dialogue, magical and sword battles, and hilarious humor, weaving together characters to create a story that has garnered many readers. The currently available comic series has sold over 32 million copies worldwide, creating a sensation among manga fans.

The TV anime adaptation of the novel aired from September 2023 to March 2024, garnering a wide range of fans both in Japan and overseas and receiving a strong response. Now, the long-awaited second season is scheduled to air on Nippon Television from January 2026! Freiren’s “journey to understand the human heart” begins once again. In a world where the Demon King was defeated by the hero Himmel and his companions, Freiren, an elven magician who has lived for over a thousand years and who brought peace together with Himmel and his companions, sets out on a “journey to understand the human heart,” overcome with tears and feelings upon Himmel’s death. Along the way, Freiren meets Fern, a magician raised by her former companion Heiter, and Stark, a warrior and disciple of her fellow companion Eisen, as they set out for Aureole, the land where souls rest. Along the way, Freiren interacts with the people she meets and battles cunning demons and monsters.

The story is sometimes peaceful, sometimes silly, sometimes intense, and occasionally poignant… All of these experiences, every moment, accumulate as irreplaceable memories for the three of them. What awaits them at the end of this journey?
