The Tokyo Revengers voice cast has once again surprised fans with an unconventional Halloween celebration. Following the broadcast of Tokyo Revengers Halloween Special 2026!!, the anime’s official X account shared a behind-the-scenes group photograph featuring the voice actors in elaborate costumes inspired by the traditional Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, better known as the story of Princess Kaguya.

This year’s theme quickly caught fans’ attention, not only because of the unusual costume choices but also because of the cast members’ enthusiastic commitment to the joke. From a brightly dressed Princess Kaguya to a yellow-painted moon, the photograph created a wonderfully chaotic scene that fans found both hilarious and adorable.

Tokyo Revengers Cast Recreates the Princess Kaguya Folktale

On October 29, 2026, the official Tokyo Revengers account hosted its annual Halloween special. After the programme, the account shared a group photograph with the message:

“This year’s Halloween cosplay was ‘Princess Kaguya’! What did you think?”

The photograph featured six members of the anime’s voice cast, each taking on a role inspired by the famous Japanese story.

The most surprising casting choice was Princess Kaguya herself, portrayed by Sho Kano, the voice actor behind Chifuyu Matsuno. The elderly bamboo cutter and his wife were represented by Yuki Hayashi, who voices Manjiro Sano (Mikey), and Masaya Fukunishi, the voice of Ken Ryuguji (Draken).

Meanwhile, Nobuhiko Okamoto, who plays Haruchiyo Sanzu, appeared as the Emperor. Mariya Ise, the voice of Senju Kawaragi, completed the unusual group as a rabbit.

Perhaps the most eye-catching costume belonged to Yuki Shin, the voice actor of Takemichi Hanagaki. He appeared dressed as the moon, wearing an entirely yellow outfit with his face also painted yellow. His appearance added an especially surreal touch to the already unconventional group photograph.

The result was far from an ordinary Halloween costume photo. Instead, the cast turned a well-known Japanese folktale into a playful group performance, with each costume contributing to the overall humour.

What Is the Story of Princess Kaguya?

For viewers unfamiliar with Japanese folklore, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter is one of Japan’s best-known traditional stories.

The tale follows an elderly bamboo cutter who discovers a tiny, mysterious girl inside a glowing bamboo stalk. He and his wife take the child home and raise her as their daughter. The girl grows into an extraordinarily beautiful young woman known as Princess Kaguya.

As she becomes famous for her beauty, several noblemen attempt to marry her. However, Kaguya gives them impossible challenges rather than accepting their proposals. Eventually, the Emperor also becomes interested in her, but the story takes a bittersweet turn when her true connection to the Moon is revealed.

The Tokyo Revengers cast used familiar characters from this story as the inspiration for their costumes. The moon-themed appearance was particularly fitting because the Moon plays an important role in the original folktale.

Of course, the cast’s version was more comedic than traditional. Seeing the actors who normally bring the anime’s intense gang conflicts to life dressed as a princess, elderly couple, Emperor, rabbit, and moon made the contrast even funnier.

Fans React to the Cast’s Unusual Halloween Costumes

The official photograph quickly attracted attention from Tokyo Revengers fans. Many praised the cast for their creativity, while others joked that the costumes were so unexpected that the picture could hardly be recognised as a promotional activity for the anime.

Some of the reactions included:

  • “They all look great! What a terrifying Halloween!”
  • “Seriously, this is the best!”
  • “I want them to perform a play in these costumes!”
  • “I love how they go wild every year.”
  • “If it didn’t say Tokyo Revengers, I wouldn’t even know what this project was about!”
  • “Usamaria-sama is so cute. She makes my heart flutter!”
  • “Everyone is adorable, but Ise-san is especially cute!”

The comments show how much fans enjoy the cast’s willingness to participate in unusual seasonal activities. Rather than simply wearing standard Halloween costumes, the voice actors embraced a shared theme and created a memorable group photograph.

Mariya Ise’s rabbit costume received particular affection from fans, while the moon costume worn by Yuki Shin became another major talking point. The combination of recognisable folktale characters and unexpected casting choices gave the photograph its distinctive charm.

Tokyo Revengers Continues Its Halloween Tradition

The Halloween special is also a reminder of the strong connection between the Tokyo Revengers cast and its fan community. Voice actors regularly participate in promotional broadcasts, special programmes and events that allow viewers to see a more playful side of the people behind their favourite characters.

These activities offer something different from the anime itself. While Tokyo Revengers is known for its emotional conflicts, time travel, gang rivalries and dramatic character relationships, the Halloween programme gives the cast an opportunity to entertain fans outside the story.

The 2026 edition also brought together performers associated with several important characters, including Takemichi, Mikey, Draken, Chifuyu, Sanzu and Senju. Their participation made the event particularly enjoyable for viewers following the current anime arc.

Tokyo Revengers: Three Heavens War Arc Is Now Airing

The Halloween celebration arrives while the anime is broadcasting its latest chapter, the Three Heavens War Arc.

Based on Ken Wakui’s manga, Tokyo Revengers follows Takemichi Hanagaki, an ordinary young man who discovers that he can travel back in time. After learning that his former girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, has been killed, he uses this ability to return to the past and attempt to change the events that led to her death.

The new arc takes place after the conflict involving the Tokyo Manji Gang and Tenjiku. Takemichi eventually reaches a future in which Hinata is alive, but a new problem emerges: Mikey is missing from this seemingly better future.

The story then moves into an era in which three powerful groups compete for control. Their rivalry sets the stage for another major conflict and what the series describes as Takemichi’s final revenge.

The Three Heavens War Arc premiered in Japan on October 2, 2026, and is broadcast weekly. Disney+ also carries the arc as a worldwide subscription streaming exclusive, excluding mainland China. The opening theme is “IGNITE” by JO1, while “Trickster” by go!go!vanillas serves as the ending theme.

The contrast between the serious developments in the current storyline and the cast’s cheerful Halloween costumes makes the special even more entertaining for fans.

A Halloween Celebration Fans Will Remember

The Tokyo Revengers Halloween Special 2026 has given fans another memorable moment outside the anime’s main story. The Princess Kaguya theme, the unusual role assignments, and the cast’s commitment to their costumes turned an ordinary promotional photograph into a source of laughter and discussion.

With the Three Heavens War Arc currently unfolding, viewers have plenty of dramatic anime moments to look forward to. However, the cast’s playful Halloween appearance proves that Tokyo Revengers can also deliver plenty of fun away from its intense gang battles.

Judging by the enthusiastic reactions, fans would certainly welcome another wonderfully unpredictable Halloween celebration next year.
