The decision to produce a new Godzilla anime series was announced on stage at Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2025, with concept art unveiled.
Since his first appearance in 1954, Godzilla, the king of monsters, has captivated and shocked not only Japan but the world. Godzilla-1.0, released in 2023, was a huge hit both in Japan and around the world, winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards®.
Furthermore, the fifth Hollywood film, “Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire,” grossed over 84.5 billion yen worldwide. With a history spanning over 70 years, Godzilla continues to reign as the ultimate monster king, with the latest film, “Godzilla-0.0,” directed by Takashi Yamazaki, now confirmed.
The new Godzilla anime series is a shocking first in the franchise’s 70-year history, featuring a boy who possesses Godzilla’s powers as the protagonist, a first for any Godzilla film, including the live-action films. Befitting this challenge, the film is being produced by Orange, the studio behind Godzilla SP (Singular Point), in collaboration with Igloo Studio, a cutting-edge Thai animation studio.
Concept art unveiled onstage depicts a boy preparing to unleash a “radiant heat ray” reminiscent of Godzilla. Is this boy, who possesses the power of Godzilla, the god of destruction who has previously confronted humanity, truly human? This first attempt at the series already makes us eagerly await the release of the story. Speaking on stage at Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2025, Keiji Ota (Toho Co., Ltd., Senior Managing Executive Officer, Head of IP & Animation Division, and Chief Godzilla Officer/CGO) commented, “Godzilla has always been a mirror of the times throughout its 70-year history.
This film is a first for the series, featuring a boy possessing Godzilla’s powers, and we believe it will be able to more deeply portray both the fear and hope of today’s world. As TOHO animation, this is the challenge we take on to create a new story.” Orange producer Sumikata Waki expressed his expectations, saying, “Through the technology and direction we have cultivated so far, including ‘Godzilla SP,’ we hope to reflect our passion in this Godzilla film more strongly. We are also looking forward to collaborating with Igloo Studio, an award-winning animation studio.”
Igloo Studio Founder and CEO Nat Yossawattanon commented, “I am honored to be involved in the Godzilla IP, which has influenced so many people. I hope to be able to project the various feelings of people around the world living in this modern era into the Godzilla story.”The concept art was unveiled to the world on stage at
