The Ghost in the Shell Exhibition Ghost and the Shell Production Committee (Kodansha, Mori Building, KDDI, Production I.G, Parco) will hold the Ghost in the Shell Exhibition Ghost and the Shell from January 30 to April 5, 2026, at TOKYO NODE GALLERY A/B/C (45F, Toranomon Hills Station Tower). Tickets will go on sale in the fall of 2025.

This exhibition is the first large-scale exhibition in the series’ history to cover all works, starting with the original work by Masamune Shirow in 1989, and allowing visitors to experience the history of Ghost in the Shell over the past 30 years. It will be held with the full cooperation of Production IG, which has been in charge of animation for the previous works since the theatrical version “Ghost in the Shell” was released in 1995, and Science SARU, which will be in charge of the new anime scheduled to air in 2026.

In addition to works by past directors such as Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, Kazuya Kise, and Shinji Aramaki, new anime-related works will also be exhibited. You can appreciate each work while comparing its unique theme and worldview. Additionally, many original goods exclusive to the exhibition will be available for sale during the exhibition period. You can enjoy special items that can only be obtained here.

This exhibition is also scheduled to tour overseas. Further information will be released in due course. [Mamoru Oshii’s comment] Ghost in the Shell. The relationship is that there is a shell inside the Ghost, which is what I think is “Ghost in the Shell.” Ghosts are not limited to people, but also reside in dolls and plants. Something harmonious and calm. Something that whispers like the wind.

The common thread running through this series of works is a futuristic vision. Each director has drawn a work based on the worldview of the original manga, but none of them has strayed one step from Masamune Shirow’s policy. They cannot escape it. That’s why they can all be considered spin-offs, and that’s also a benefit of this work. Since the exhibition is said to be cross-sectional, it should have an entrance that is not in order as a subculture. I want people to take into account not only the anime, but also the original manga and live-action films. Only then can it become a cross-sectional exhibition.

Highlights of the “Ghost in the Shell” Exhibition Touring the source of the entire series – More than 600 archives, including unpublished materials, will be on display – More than 600 valuable materials, including unpublished materials, such as a vast amount of original drawings, setting materials, and storyboards created during the production process of the entire “Ghost in the Shell” series, will be on display.

They use their thoughts and senses to interpret it while immersing themselves deeply in the series’ world. A place where “past and present” intersect – Redefining “What is a human?”

This exhibition is not just a simple viewing. Still, it aims to be a place where each viewer can encounter “their Ghost in the Shell” by overlapping the future question posed by “Ghost in the Shell” with changes in the real world through each exhibition experience. Furthermore, the universal question that “Ghost in the Shell” has consistently asked, “What is a human?” is reconsidered from the perspective of modern cutting-edge technology such as AI and BMI (brain-machine interface). By unraveling the relationship between “GHOST” and “SHELL”, viewers will have the opportunity to reexamine their existence while traveling back and forth between “past and present”.

Another perspective on “Ghost in the Shell” – A collaborative work with creators from around the world.
