Everyone couldn’t help but comment, “Give us back the sad time!” When Son Gohan (voiced by Nozawa Masako) is overpowered by Majin Buu (voiced by Shioya Kozo) and falls into a pinch, Old Kai (voiced by Tanaka Ryoichi) decides to give his life to Goku (voiced by Nozawa Masako) as the entire universe is once again in danger. As Old Kai bids farewell, he collapses, and the ring above Goku’s head disappears… But the next moment, even Goku is surprised by an unexpected gag development.
Gohan, whose potential was brought out beyond its limits and powered up, overpowered Buu, who escaped just before the last moment. Buu appeared before Gohan and the others again and asked to fight Gotenks instead of Gohan. Goten and Trunks (CV: Takeshi Kusao) took the bait and, despite Piccolo’s (CV: Toshio Furukawa) warning, combined to become Gotenks, who was then absorbed.
The situation quickly reverses, and Gohan is cornered. Old Kaiōshin, who was watching the situation from the Kaiōshin Realm, offers to give his life to Goku and go and assist Gohan. Kibito (voiced by Aomori Shin) desperately tries to stop him from making this unexpected proposal, saying, “No!” Kaiōshin (voiced by Mitsuya Yuji), who could not stop Majin Buu’s revival, also shows his determination to sacrifice his own life by saying, “My life…”
However, Old Kai refused to budge from his decision to give his life, saying, “You don’t have to push yourself. You’re still young. I only have about a thousand more years to live anyway.” Goku also seemed overcome with emotion as he said, “Grandpa…Grandpa.”
As Old Kai prepares, Goku and the others look down and are somewhat lonely. “Well then, farewell,” Old Kai says with a smile, then closes his eyes and collapses. The moving background music may have moved many people to tears.
Having accomplished his mission, Old Kaioshin’s expression looked like he was sleeping peacefully as he lay there. The ring disappeared, and Goku, who had returned to life, renewed his resolve, saying, “I’m sorry… I will not let this life go to waste!” The next moment, Old Kaioshin stood with a ring on his head, urging Goku, “Okay! Go quickly!” Even Goku, as expected, could only exclaim in surprise at this unexpected turn of events, “Y-y-yes…!?”
