“Angel’s Egg” is director Oshii’s first original work, and is an OVA with original idea and art direction by Yoshitaka Amano. It was produced in an ascetic style, with almost monotone colors, very few lines of dialogue, unusually long takes, and about 400 cuts, about one-third of the number of regular anime cuts. It was released as an OVA in 1985, and was shown in theaters for a limited time to commemorate its release.
