This year’s Best Animated Film nominee, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Castle Arc Chapter 1: Akaza Returns,” has not only been a hit in Japan but has also grossed over ¥106,370,568,950 worldwide. It’s the first Japanese film to surpass ¥100 billion, and it’s currently ranked second in Japan’s all-time box-office rankings. It’s also garnering attention for potential prestigious international awards.
Also nominated is “Zootopia 2,” the latest release from Disney Animation Studios. Released in the US and other countries on November 26, it has already grossed over ¥86,624,800,000 (approximately $556 million) worldwide.
The previous film won both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, making it a likely frontrunner among the nominees. Another notable nominee, “K-Pop Girls! Demon Hunters,” also made an impact in 2025.
This CG-animated film from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation began streaming on Netflix in June of the same year. Not only did it become the most-watched film in Netflix history in August, but it also received critical acclaim for its music, with the soundtrack reaching number one on the Billboard Global Charts.
