The anime film Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence (Yuri!!! on Ice Gekijō-ban: Ice Adolescence), which is part of the Yuri!!! On Ice franchise canceled its production, according to the film’s official website on Friday. The production committee for the movie and the anime studio MAPPA said that internal deliberations among the committee and personnel led to the decision to discontinue the film because of “various circumstances.”
The movie was revealed by the crew in April 2017. Crunchyroll streamed the 12-episode original television anime series as it aired, which debuted in October 2016 in Japan. In February 2018, Funimation launched the English broadcast dub on YouTube and subsequently packaged the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
The movie’s crew declared in September 2019 that the 2019 premiere date had been postponed. The film was postponed “in order to substantially scale up the content more than originally planned,” according to the statement at the time.
2020 saw the release of an English statement on the film’s progress via the official Twitter account. The message said that while the production was “still ongoing with the aim of further enriching the film,” the staff had not yet “reached the stage where we can announce the release date.”
