The first broadcast date of the utterly new TV anime ” CITY THE ANIMATION ” produced by Kyoto Animation has been decided to be July 6 (Sun)! Along with releasing this information, the first PV, which includes the voices of the main cast, was released, and additional cast and theme song information was also announced. Let’s take a look.

“CITY” is a girls’ comedy manga serialized in “Morning” by Arawi Keiichi. It depicts the daily life of an ordinary city (town) through a variety of characters, including the penniless university student Nagumo Mitori, Nagumo’s junior Nikura, who aspires to be a photographer, and the slightly mysterious girl Izumi Wako.

Following on from the previous work “Nichijou,” which was also made into a TV anime and received a great response, this work, which is drawn in the Arawi world at full throttle, draws readers in with its unique charm. “CITY” will be broadcast on ABC TV, TOKYO MX, TV Aichi, and BS11 from Sunday, July 6, 2025, as a completely new TV anime by Kyoto Animation, directed by Taichi Ishidate, who served as assistant director on Keiichi Arawi’s previous work, “Nichijou.”

The first PV released simultaneously begins with a panoramic view of the city, as the title “CITY” suggests, and depicts one happy day after another that reminds us of “Nichijou.” Of note is the depiction of the background, which is closer to primary colors than the previous work, “Nichijou,” and has a simple screen design with no shadows. Please check out how this screen, which has come straight out of Keiichi Arawi’s work, moves.

Seven additional cast members have also been announced. Koyasu Takehito, the mother by Asano Mayumi, Tatsuta by KENN, Ryota by Inomata Keiji, Kamome by Hayashi Koko, Umi by Fukushima Haruna, and Sora by Amami Yuki will play the roles of the doctor and father. Comments from each of the cast members have also arrived.

Koyasu Takehito, who worked on Violet Evergarden with Director Ishidate, said, “This guy has created such serious and beautiful works, but this one has completely changed course and turned into a silly piece full of gags,” before giving the comedy his stamp of approval, saying, “But this is extremely funny!” Theme song information has also been released. Furui Riho will perform the opening theme, the ending theme will be by TOMOO, and the background music will be by the Piranhans.

TOMOO, who is also known for performing the ending theme for the second season of “Ao no Hako,” the final episode of which will soon be broadcast, said, “While reading ‘CITY,’ I had been laughing out loud just moments before, but then all of a sudden, an indescribable emotion came over me, and I naturally started humming along and went to the piano, and that became the melody for the chorus.” He also spoke about the behind-the-scenes production of the ending theme, leaving a comment that builds expectations.

The whole picture of “CITY THE ANIMATION” is finally beginning to be revealed. Be sure to look forward to this completely new anime (excluding sequels) by Kyoto Animation, which will be released to the world for the first time in six years!
