As of January 31, 2025, animation artist Yasuda Gensho has been decided. In addition, additional cast members, a special trailer, and the second teaser visual were announced.
“Make a Girl” is the first feature-length animated project by Yasuda Gensho, an up-and-coming animation artist with over 5.8 million followers on social media such as YouTube and TikiTok. The story occurs in the future, just a little further away from the present. Mizutamari Akira, a genius scientist who developed and successfully commercialized the robot Salt, which supports people’s lives, felt stuck as all his new inventions failed.
At that time, Akira heard from a friend that he could “power up” if he had a girlfriend, so he scientifically created a girlfriend, “No. 0”, literally an artificial human. No. 0 is torn between programmed emotions and growing feelings. Will love blossom between Akira, who is not used to communicating with people, or will it be…? It was previously announced that Tanezaki Atsumi and Horie Shun would play the main cast, but now additional cast members have been announced. Kana Hanazawa, who plays Mitsuri Kanroji in “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” and Ichika Nakano in “The Quintessential Quintuplets,” will play Eri Kaichu, a doctoral student at the university where the protagonist Mizutamari Akira’s father, Takamine Shoichi, is a professor. Takamine Shoichi will be played by Ueda Yoji, who plays Eisen in “Furier of the Dead .”
The role of young Mizutamari Akira will be played by Hinata Minami, who plays Bojji in “Ranking of Kings.” In addition, a special trailer and the second teaser visual have also been released. The trailer begins with a scene in which classmate Obayashi Kunito tells Akira, “You should get a girlfriend too.
The world will change,” and Akira, who receives these words, scientifically creates a literal android girlfriend, “No. 0.” At first glance, Akira and No. 0 seem to develop their love steadily. Still, the atmosphere changes in the second half.
The 60-second video is filled with a disturbing atmosphere, with screams and cries such as “Something’s wrong!” and “No good, No. 0!” and No. 0’s meaningful line, “I wish we could just stand next to each other like normal people…”. The second teaser visual shows Akira and No. 0 joining hands while separated by a piece of glass, even though they are in the same room. Under the copy, “She is a created girlfriend,” are the programmed emotions real or fake? The finished product conveys the mysterious charm of this work.
The animated film “Make a Girl” will be released on January 31, 2025. Kana Hanazawa (role of Kaichu Eri): I had initially seen Yasuda Gensho’s work on social media, and I was curious about what kind of work it would be from the time of the audition, so I was pleased to have the opportunity to work with him. Eli, the character I voice, is a robot researcher and a caring older sister figure to Akira. She will be heavily involved in the story, so please look forward to her actions! And since No. 0 is so cute, I hope you will enjoy her on the big screen! Ueda Yoji (role of Takamine Shoichi) This is the first feature film directed by up-and-coming anime creator Yasuda Gensho. Recently, new creators have had the opportunity to participate in works taking on significant challenges, so I am pleased to be on the scene. They inspired me, and I tried to express them as well as I could.
It was a dialogue with the cast members, who could express human beings’ complexities. I hope you will feel closer to the work and sincerely feel it. Please look forward to it. Hinata Minami (role of Mizutamari Akira as a child): I am Hinata Minami, and I played Mizutamari Akira as a child. Since I heard about the audition, I had wanted to be involved somehow, so I was pleased when I was chosen for the role. Having been selected, I felt pressured to do my best to express what Akira was going through as a child. During the dubbing, I acted together with the other cast members. I could see that the character’s feelings became even more apparent when I added my voice, and I was happy to feel that with my skin. And even at the dubbing stage, the visuals were terrific… I hope everyone will enjoy the movie at the cinema using all five senses. Anime film “Make a Girl” 2025.1.31 Fri.
