The trading card game Magic: The Gathering (abbreviated as MTG ). A teaser visual of the Netflix version of Magic: The Gathering was announced in 2019. According to the Netflix affiliate account Netflix Geeked, the series is being produced in cooperation with Wizards of the Coast, the developer of MTG, and Hasbro Entertainment, the production and distribution division of its parent company, Hasbro. Terry Matalas, the showrunner ( executive producer ) known for TV dramas such as Star Trek: Picard and 12 Monkeys, is involved.

Netflix also announced the anime adaptation of “MTG” in June 2019. Initially, it was thought that the Russo brothers, who worked on the Avengers series, would direct the work. In August 2021, it was reported that the work was scheduled to be released in 2022 and that Brandon Routh, who starred in the movie Superman Returns, would play the role of Gideon Jura.

However, there was no news for several years after that. In September 2024, the American entertainment news site Collider reported that the production of the work had been canceled.
