Toei Animation’s entire CG short animated film “Candy” has been officially invited to the Wide Angle Short Showcase category at Korea’s 29th Busan International Film Festival. It has also been invited to the 18th Sapporo International Short Film Festival in Hokkaido and the 31st Kineko International Film Festival in Tokyo, and it has been decided that the film will be screened in Japan.
“Candy” is an entire CG short animated film depicting the process of Dondon, a child who is not good at communication, hearing various voices through a mysterious candy, understanding other people’s hearts, and learning to express his feelings. Toei Animation produced the film based on two picture books by Korean author Baek Hee-na, “Candy” and “I’m a Dog.”
The director is Nishio Daisuke, who also worked on Dragon Ball Z and The Kindaichi Case Files, and the producer is Washio Ten. The two launched the “Pretty Cure” series, and with “Candy,” they have reunited for the first time in about 20 years. The Dandelion Animation Studio produced the animation, which worked on “THE FIRST SLAM DUNK.”
Sato Naoki composed the music, which is also responsible for the background music for the “PreCure” series. The Busan International Film Festival screening will mark the film’s first showing in the author’s home country of Korea.
At the 18th Sapporo International Short Film Festival in Hokkaido, “Amedama” will be screened from 2:30 pm on October 13th. At the 31st Kineko International Film Festival to be held in Futako Tamagawa, Tokyo, the film will be screened three times: on November 2nd at 11:40 am, on the 3rd at 11:40 am, and the 4th at 1:25 pm.
