The ninth episode of the popular anime ” Funeral of Frieren ” depicts a fierce battle with demons. The scene in which Fern (voiced by Ichinose Kana ) blocks an enemy attack without even glancing at it has been highly praised, with many saying, “It was so cool that I got goosebumps,” and “Fern’s sense of strength is intense.”
Episode 9, “Aura of the Guillotine,” depicts a showdown between Fern and the demon Rugnar (CV: Junichi Suwabe ), nicknamed the “Executioner.” Fern is a magician who is Frieren’s apprentice, and although he is inexperienced, he has acquired excellent techniques for manipulating magical power.
In the middle of the battle, Fern points out to Rugnar, “You are proud and arrogant, and you still don’t even consider us, or anyone other than Frieren, a threat.” Sensing an attack from behind by Rugnar, Fern blocks it without even looking in his direction.
Viewers expressed their surprise and praise for her “no-look guard,” saying things like, “Fern is so cool as he corners her with a blank expression,” “Fern has such a strong presence,” “He’s so cool I got goosebumps, he’s the best,” and “This scene gave me goosebumps…” Fans are also enthralled by her flawless fighting style, saying, “It’s beautiful no matter how many times I watch it…” and “Every single one of her movements is beautiful.”
The anime “Furieren ” is based on the manga of the same name, written by Yamada Kanehito and illustrated by Abe Tsukasa, which is currently being serialized in “Weekly Shonen Sunday.” The story is set in a world “after” the Demon King has been defeated and depicts the 1000-year-old magician Furiren going on a “journey to understand humans.”
The original manga has won multiple awards and has received tremendous support and high praise. As of the 14th volume published, the total number of copies published has exceeded 24 million. It has already been decided that the second season of the anime will be broadcast from January 2026.
