by The synopsis and preview scene cuts of the 4th episode “Summer Festival” of the summer anime “The Summer When Light Died”, which will start broadcasting on Saturday, July 26, 2025, have been released.
“The Summer When Light Died” is a youth horror work based on the manga serialized in “Young Ace UP” by Mokumoku Ren. It depicts the experiences of ordinary high school boys, Yoshiki and Tsujinaka, as they encounter various strange incidents while living with Hikaru, a mysterious being who imitates his childhood friend, Idou Hikaru. The original work has been attracting attention, having been ranked first in the men’s category of “This Manga is Amazing! 2023”.
The TV anime will be directed and composed by Takeshita Ryohei, known for “Night Jellyfish Can’t Swim”, with Takahashi Yuichi serving as character designer and general animation director. Hiraoka Masanobu will be the director animator, and animation production will be handled by Cygames Pictures.
The cast includes Kobayashi Chiaki as Yoshiki and Tsujinaka Yoshiki, and Umeda Shuuichirou as Hikaru. While eating shaved ice, Hikaru wonders, “If they look the same, do they taste the same?” after hearing about the syrup, which says, “The taste changes just because the coloring is different.” Then, he asks Yoshiki how he realized he was a fake “Hikari.” Episode 4 of the summer anime “The Summer When Hikari Died,” “Summer Festival,” will begin airing on Nippon TV and other networks from 24:55 on Saturday, July 26. It will also be exclusively distributed worldwide on Netflix and will be available for free on ABEMA.
