It has been announced that “Level 999 Villager” (KADOKAWA), a light novel by Hoshizuki Koneko that originated on the novel submission site “Let’s Become a Novelist”, will be adapted into a TV anime in 2026.
The work began serialization on “Let’s Become a Novelist” in 2015 and is a popular work that has also been adapted into a comic, with the total number of copies of the series published exceeding 3.8 million. The main cast of the anime has also been announced, with Inomata Keiji playing the protagonist Kagami Koji and Toyama Nao playing one of the heroines, Alice.
The story is set in a world of swords and magic where people have levels and innate roles. Kagami Koji, a villager who has reached the pinnacle of level 999 and is rebelling against the life he has been given, meets Alice, the daughter of the Demon King, the pinnacle of demons, and together with his friends, they aim to achieve coexistence between demons and humans.
Inomata, who plays Kagami Koji, commented, “When I read the original work, my first impression of the work was that it made me think, ‘What does it mean to be normal?’ Kagami is a laid-back person, but as the title suggests, he is a ‘Level 999 Villager,’ so of course, he is firm. How did he become so strong despite being a villager, and how will the story unfold after he meets the demon Alice? Please watch as they face various difficulties and realities!!”
Higashiyama, who plays Alice, said, “She’s a demon girl who is the enemy of humans, but she’s truly an angelic being! Alice’s straightforwardness, innocence, and cuteness make my heart pound while I’m playing with her, and it feels like my soul is cleansed. I hope I can relate to Alice’s straightforward beliefs and live in this world! The story unfolds like a fantasy, yet is shrouded in mystery… please look forward to it!”
Original author Hoshizuki commented, “First of all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone involved in the production, and to all the readers who have continued to support us so steadfastly. I am overwhelmed with emotion.
This work has come this far with the support of so many talented people, so much so that I don’t know how to convey how moved I am. I am more than happy that the day has come when we can all enjoy the anime, which is the culmination of all of that, together. I hope you will continue to support ‘The Villager of Level 999’!”
