Highly acclaimed works you shouldn’t miss
With August 2025 upon us, many of the summer 2025 anime seasons are approaching the halfway point. While there are still many titles to catch up on, which titles are receiving high ratings in streaming site reviews? Aside from sequels to hits like “Dandadan” and “My Dress-Up Darling,” which have been ranked highly in various media popularity polls, let’s take a look at some of the highly rated titles on Amazon Prime Video as of August 15th.
For example, “Ruri no Houseki” (original work by Keiichiro Shibuya) has a score of 3.9 out of 5. The story follows high school girl Ruri Tanigawa (voiced by Kyori Nemoto), who loves sparkly things, as she meets graduate student Nagi Arato (voiced by Asami Seto), who is majoring in mineralogy, and dives into the world of mineral mining. In the first episode, Ruri rashly embarks on the path of mining, but she matures as the story progresses. In episode six, Ruri’s research provides a clue to finding the sapphire they’re looking for.
The series provides easy-to-understand explanations of minerals and geology, leading some viewers to comment, “It’s a great anime that reaffirms the importance of academic freedom.” “Forbidden Mole” (original work by Natsumi Eguchi) is also a unique work that may not appeal to everyone, but it has received a high rating of 4.2 points.
The story follows high school students Akira Makiguri (voiced by Genki Okawa) and Yaeko Kirihara (voiced by Yukiyo Fujii), who become embroiled in mysterious phenomena caused by a man named “Mole” (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura), who claims to be a sage banned from hell. Mogura’s frank and witty narrative style has been met with reviews such as, “It’s refreshing for those tired of Narou and other-worldly stories,” and “It’s exciting to see what this unhermited hermit will do.” Another dark fantasy work, “Klebates: The King of Beasts, the Baby, and the Corpse Hero” (original work by Yuji Iwahara), also received a high rating of 4.4 points.
The story follows the magical beast “Klebates” (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura), who is entrusted with the royal baby “Luna” (expressed by Saya Aizawa), disguised as a human and taking on the name “Klenn” (voiced by Mutsumi Tamura), and journeys with the resurrected hero “Alicia” (voiced by Haruka Shiraishi) as he raises the child. While the story emphasizes the low value of soldiers and bandits and features some rather grotesque depictions, it also features some comical aspects, such as the conversations between the insane characters, such as Klenn and Alicia.
“Klebates The King of Beasts, the Baby and the Hero of Corpses” is the first anime directed by Taguchi Kiyotaka, who is known for his special effects works such as “The Next Generation -Patlabor-” and the “Ultraman” series, and has been praised by viewers for his high level of directing ability. Comments include, “The composition and direction that fills in the gaps between stories and frames is amazing,” and “It clearly stands out from the many works with similar titles and content that are being released.”The story follows Ruri, who recklessly embarks on the world of mineral mining after meeting Seto Asami.
