Advance screening of the sequel to the anime ‘Watanabe’ is going well, with some theaters in the Tokyo metropolitan area taking the top spot over the weekend

The specially edited theatrical version of the anime “Watashi ga Koibito ni Naru Wake nai Jan, Muri Muri! (It Wasn’t Impossible!?),” which began screening on Friday, November 21st, topped the weekend rankings at Aeon.

being screened on THX-certified screens, which are designed for superior sound quality, and a social media representative at Aeon Cinema Ebina reported, “Even though we were only able to show it once a day…it still topped the weekend rankings at Aeon Cinema Ebina.” This specially edited sequel to the teenage girls’ love comedy “Watashi ga Koibito ni Naru Wake nai Jan, Muri Muri! (It Wasn’t Impossible!?),” which aired in July 2025, features episodes 13-17 of the TV anime.

The film continues from the final episode of the TV broadcast and follows Amaori Rena, a young girl who has just made her high school debut, as she tries to change herself after attending a cosplay event. As it will be shown in around 30 cinemas, it is not ranked highly in the national box office, but the anime’s official website reported that “some cinemas were sold out” on the opening weekend.

Despite being an advanced screening of the TV broadcast scheduled to air later, it is attracting an audience mainly composed of the series’ fans.
