The cute cyberpunk android-repair game D1AL-ogue is getting a much bigger sequel, and the latest development update has given fans several new reasons to be excited.
Korean indie development team CherryPicker has released its August 2026 development log for D1AL-ogue+, the upcoming sequel to the free-to-play adventure and puzzle game D1AL-ogue.
The new update reveals several completed pieces of content, including a brand-new Orca repair animation, a new animation featuring Michelle, and an entirely new social-media feature that will allow players to discover additional stories within the cyberpunk world.
The developers are also reworking the sequel’s puzzles after testing showed that some planned mechanics had become unnecessarily complicated. Controller support and other quality-of-life features are being reviewed as well, while more than half of the character artwork—including portraits and repair animations—has already been completed.
And there is another surprise: the D1AL-ogue series is finally getting its first official merchandise.
A plush based on Pray, one of the android characters from the original game, is being produced by Good Smile Company. Pre-orders are currently scheduled to run from August 31 through October 7, 2026, with the product listed at ¥4,400 in Japan and approximately 17 cm tall. Good Smile Company currently lists shipping for March 2027.
For a game that started as a free release, the merchandise announcement has understandably created a funny new opportunity for fans: if they have been asking how they can financially support the developers, they can finally “pay for D1AL-ogue” by buying official merchandise.
What Is D1AL-ogue?
For newcomers, D1AL-ogue is a free cyberpunk repair puzzle adventure game developed by CherryPicker.
The game takes place in Chroma City, a futuristic city where the sun never rises. Instead, the streets are illuminated by artificial light, creating a distinctive neon-noir atmosphere.
The player takes on the role of the manager of a small android repair clinic.
The customers who arrive at the clinic are not ordinary humans. They are androids known as Electronic Vital Entities, or E.V.E.s.
Your job is to repair them using an unusual diagnostic device called D1AL. Rather than presenting repair as a conventional menu-based system, the game turns it into a circular puzzle in which players rotate the interface and merge modules to fix damaged parts.
But the repair process is only part of the experience.
Once an android has been repaired, the player can talk to them and learn about their lives, problems, personalities, and experiences.
That means the puzzle system is directly connected to the game’s storytelling.
You are not simply solving puzzles to reach the next level. The act of repairing an android is what opens the door to its story.
A Free Game With “Overwhelmingly Positive” Reviews
D1AL-ogue launched on Steam on February 4, 2026, and is available as a free-to-play title.
The game quickly attracted a large amount of positive attention. Steam currently lists its overall English-language reviews as “Overwhelmingly Positive,” with more than 1,400 English reviews and a similarly strong rating among recent reviews.
The game’s combination of cute android characters, pixel-art-inspired visuals, cyberpunk world-building, dialogue-heavy storytelling, and unusual repair puzzles helped it stand out among smaller indie releases.
Its Steam page describes the experience as a combination of cyberpunk, puzzle gameplay, visual-novel elements, multiple endings, story-rich dialogue, and a retro-inspired aesthetic.
That success created the opportunity for CherryPicker to begin work on a much larger sequel.
D1AL-ogue+ Is Designed as a Much Bigger Sequel
CherryPicker has previously explained that D1AL-ogue+ is planned to be substantially larger than the original game.
The sequel is expected to feature more than 20 characters and more than eight times the story content of D1AL-ogue. The developers have also discussed expanding the narrative and giving players more choices as they progress through the main story.
This means D1AL-ogue+ is not being developed as a simple collection of additional repair puzzles.
The goal is to expand the world of Chroma City, introduce more characters, and create a more substantial narrative experience.
The August development log confirms that the team is continuing work on the main story, with the final portion of the main narrative now being developed and the overall story flow being completed.
There is still no confirmed release date for the sequel.
Orca’s New Repair Animation Is Complete
One of the biggest highlights of the August 2026 update is the completion of Orca’s repair animation.
Orca is one of the characters from the original game and is also one of the repair targets players can encounter.
CherryPicker shared a preview of the new animation and described it as a “charming repair animation.”
The animation is particularly interesting because repair scenes are one of the defining visual elements of D1AL-ogue.
The developers could have treated these scenes as simple gameplay transitions, but they have instead continued to give them considerable attention.
For fans, that means the sequel should retain one of the most recognizable parts of the original while adding new animation work and additional character interactions.
The game’s Steam achievements also specifically reference Orca’s first repair, reinforcing how important the character is within the original game’s repair-focused structure.
Michelle Gets a New Animation Too
The August update also revealed a new animation featuring Michelle, the younger sister of protagonist Chris.
CherryPicker explained that this animation will be used for new content being added to D1AL-ogue+.
However, the developers intentionally left fans with a mystery.
Their accompanying message asks:
“What could Michelle be making?”
The team has not yet revealed exactly what Michelle is creating or how the scene connects to the larger story.
That makes the animation one of the sequel’s smaller but more intriguing story teases.
Rather than explaining everything through trailers, CherryPicker continues to reveal individual pieces of the game through its monthly development logs.
A New Social-Media Feature Is Coming
Another major addition is a completely new social-media feature.
The original game already contains News and Community sections. D1AL-ogue+ will expand that system by introducing a new in-game social network where players can discover different kinds of stories.
The developers have deliberately kept the details vague for now, saying that players will be able to discover what kinds of stories are contained within the feature once they play the game.
This is a natural addition to a cyberpunk setting.
Instead of learning everything through direct conversations, players will be able to encounter information through another part of the fictional digital world.
It could also give the developers another way to tell small stories about characters and events happening outside the player’s immediate surroundings.
The Puzzle System Is Being Reworked
The sequel’s core puzzle system is also receiving an important redesign.
CherryPicker previously announced that it was testing the puzzles again to determine which mechanics were genuinely enjoyable and which had become unnecessarily complicated.
The August development log confirms that the team discovered some mechanics were more complicated than necessary and has therefore reworked the puzzles around several considerations, including whether the mechanics are easy to understand.
This is an important change because the repair puzzles are central to D1AL-ogue.
A puzzle can be challenging without being confusing. If players have to spend more time figuring out the rules than actually solving the puzzle, the system can become frustrating—especially when the puzzle is supposed to support a story-focused game.
The developers appear to be aiming for a better balance between depth, clarity, and fun.
Controller Support Is Also Being Improved
Controller support is another area that CherryPicker is revisiting.
The team previously added controller support but discovered that some controls were not intuitive enough. Certain user-interface elements also caused problems.
The developers therefore plan to review and fix these issues as part of their ongoing quality-assurance work.
This is particularly useful for players who prefer playing story-driven indie games with a controller rather than a keyboard and mouse.
The team is also planning broader quality-of-life improvements based on feedback from the original game and inconveniences discovered during development.
More Than Half of the Character Artwork Is Finished
CherryPicker also provided a progress update on the game’s artwork.
According to the August development log, more than half of the character artwork is now complete, including portraits and repair animations.
The developers are continuing to work on animations for new characters who will play major roles in the sequel’s story.
This is a meaningful milestone because D1AL-ogue+ is expected to have a much larger cast than the original.
More characters naturally mean more portraits, animations, dialogue, repair scenes, and story-specific assets.
Completing more than half of that artwork suggests that the sequel’s visual production is steadily moving forward, although it does not mean the game is close to release yet.
The Main Story Is Entering Its Final Development Phase
The August update also says that the team will be working on the final part of the main story and completing the overall flow of the narrative.
This is an encouraging sign for a game whose biggest expansion over the original is its narrative scope.
However, “final part of the main story” should not be interpreted as “the game is almost finished.”
A narrative-heavy indie game still needs programming, artwork, animation, localization, testing, bug fixing, quality assurance, and polishing after the core story is established.
CherryPicker’s regular development logs show that many of these areas are progressing simultaneously.
The First Official D1AL-ogue Merchandise Has Arrived
The most unexpected August announcement may be the first official merchandise for the series.
CherryPicker has partnered with Good Smile Company to release a Plushie Pray, based on the android character from D1AL-ogue.
Good Smile Company lists the plush at ¥4,400, with a height of approximately 17 cm. Pre-orders opened on August 31, 2026, and are scheduled to close on October 7, 2026, at least according to the current Japanese product listing. The listed shipping date is March 2027.
The English Good Smile Company US store also lists the item as D1AL-ogue – Plushie Pray and currently offers it as a pre-order.
For fans of the original game, this is a significant moment because it marks the franchise’s first official merchandise release.
Pray or Frey? The Merchandise Name Can Be Confusing
There is a small naming issue worth clarifying.
The Japanese developer announcement uses the Japanese name フレイ, which can be romanized as “Frey.” However, the current official English Good Smile Company product page calls the character Pray, and the English product title is “Plushie Pray.”
For English-language coverage and SEO, Pray is therefore the safest name to use when referring to the officially listed English merchandise.
This also explains why some fan discussions and translations may appear to use “Frey” while the English product listing says “Pray.”
Finally, Fans Can “Pay” for the Free Game
There is an amusing irony to the merchandise announcement.
The original D1AL-ogue is free to play, so fans have not needed to spend money to experience the game.
Now, for players who have wanted a way to financially support CherryPicker, the Pray plush provides an official option.
The joke almost writes itself: after playing a free game, fans finally have a way to “pay for D1AL-ogue.”
Of course, buying merchandise is entirely optional, and the original game remains free on Steam.
The merchandise does, however, give fans a direct way to support the franchise while waiting for D1AL-ogue+.
Localization Has Also Been Receiving Attention
CherryPicker has been actively improving the original game’s localization.
In an August update, the developers released Patch v1.0.4, which focused specifically on English and Japanese localization improvements. The team said the existing English localization had been thoroughly reviewed and revised, while Japanese text was also adjusted to make awkward expressions more natural.
The developers also carried out linguistic quality assurance, corrected typos, improved unclear expressions, and updated the credits to acknowledge fans who contributed to English and Japanese translation work.
This is particularly relevant to the sequel because CherryPicker has indicated that it wants to address problems encountered with the first game before translating the larger amount of story content in D1AL-ogue+.
For international players, better localization could make a significant difference to how character personalities and emotional scenes are understood.
The Original Game Recently Received More Technical Attention
CherryPicker is also continuing to maintain the original game while developing the sequel.
For example, on August 27, 2026, the team temporarily disabled the original game’s Streaming Mode after discovering an issue. The developers said they were working to resolve the problem and planned to restore the feature in a future update.
This shows that the studio is not completely moving away from the original game while working on the sequel.
Instead, CherryPicker continues to make fixes and improvements to D1AL-ogue while using feedback from that game to inform development of D1AL-ogue+.
The Crowdfunding Situation Remains Unclear
Funding has been one of the more complicated parts of D1AL-ogue+’s development story.
CherryPicker has previously spoken about financial difficulties and the need for additional funding to support the sequel. The team also encountered a practical problem when it discovered that Kickstarter was not available for campaigns based in South Korea.
Earlier development updates discussed the possibility of crowdfunding as a way to support the sequel’s larger scope.
However, the August 2026 development log does not announce a new crowdfunding launch date.
That distinction is important.
The sequel is clearly still being developed, but readers should not assume that a new crowdfunding campaign has officially launched simply because earlier updates discussed the plan.
For now, the confirmed August news is focused on development progress, merchandise, puzzle improvements, and additional game systems.
Why D1AL-ogue+ Is Getting Attention
At first glance, D1AL-ogue+ might look like a niche visual novel with cute android characters.
But the project has a surprisingly broad combination of features.
The sequel is bringing together:
- Cyberpunk world-building
- Android characters
- Character-driven storytelling
- Visual-novel-style dialogue
- Circular repair puzzles
- Merge-style mechanics
- Multiple story possibilities
- New social-media storytelling
- New characters
- Character repair animations
- Controller support
- Quality-of-life improvements
- A significantly larger narrative
The original game’s Steam page describes its atmosphere as a retro-inspired neon-noir cyberpunk world, combining pixel-art aesthetics with story-focused gameplay.
That unusual mix is one of the reasons the game has developed such a dedicated audience despite coming from a relatively small indie team.
A Small Indie Team Is Building a Much Bigger Game
The scale of D1AL-ogue+ is especially interesting when considering its development history.
CherryPicker is an indie team, and the sequel is considerably more ambitious than the original.
The developers are simultaneously creating more characters, more artwork, more animations, a larger story, new systems, redesigned puzzles, localization improvements, controller support, and additional quality-of-life features.
That makes the monthly development logs particularly useful.
Instead of waiting for a single large trailer, fans can follow the project through individual milestones.
One month might reveal a character animation. Another might focus on puzzle mechanics. Another might reveal new story content.
The August update follows exactly that pattern.
What Comes Next for D1AL-ogue+?
CherryPicker’s current priorities suggest that several parts of the sequel are being developed in parallel.
The team is continuing to work on:
- The final portion of the main story
- New character animations
- Repair animations
- Additional in-game content
- The new social-media feature
- Puzzle redesign and balancing
- Controller support improvements
- Quality-of-life features
- Localization and text quality
- Additional development and testing
The August development log does not provide a final release date, so fans will need to wait for a future announcement before knowing when D1AL-ogue+ will launch.
D1AL-ogue+ is shaping up to be a surprisingly ambitious sequel to one of 2026’s more unusual free indie games.
The original D1AL-ogue takes a simple idea—repair androids and listen to their stories—and combines it with a distinctive circular puzzle system and a neon-noir cyberpunk setting. Its free release on Steam helped it reach a large audience, with the game currently maintaining an “Overwhelmingly Positive” English review rating.
Now CherryPicker is expanding that formula considerably.
The August 2026 development log confirms that Orca’s new repair animation is complete, Michelle has received an animation for upcoming content, and a new in-game social-media system has been added. The team is also redesigning the puzzles to make their mechanics easier to understand and reviewing controller support and other quality-of-life features.
More than half of the character artwork is already finished, while development on the final portion of the main story is continuing.
And then there is the Pray plush.
The first official D1AL-ogue merchandise, produced by Good Smile Company, gives fans a new way to support the franchise while waiting for the sequel. The current official listing sets the pre-order period through October 7, 2026, with shipping planned for March 2027.
There is still no confirmed release date for D1AL-ogue+, and the crowdfunding plans have not received a new launch announcement in the August development log.
But the project is clearly moving forward.
For anyone interested in cyberpunk games, visual novels, android characters, puzzle adventures, or story-focused indie games, D1AL-ogue+ is a project worth watching.
And if you have been wondering how to financially support the free game that started all of this, CherryPicker now has a surprisingly simple answer:
Buy the plush.
