On the 29th, Toho announced the production of a new Godzilla anime series. The announcement was made during a stage event at the Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2025, currently being held in Singapore.

This new anime series features a boy who possesses Godzilla’s powers as the protagonist, a first in the series’ 70-year history, something not seen in previous Godzilla films, including the live-action films. “This will be a shocking work that represents a first in the series’ 70-year history,” Toho said.

The series will be produced by Toho’s animation division, TOHO Animation, with the main production team partnering with Orange, the studio behind Godzilla SP (Singular Point), and Thai animation studio Igloo Studio. Concept art was also unveiled onstage at AFA, depicting a boy attempting to fire a “radiant heat ray” reminiscent of Godzilla. Keiji Ota, Executive Vice President, IP & Animation Division, and Chief Godzilla Officer (CGO) of Toho Co., Ltd., commented, “Godzilla has always been a mirror of the times throughout its 70-year history.

This film marks the first attempt in the series to feature a boy possessing Godzilla’s powers, and we believe it will be able to more deeply portray both the fear and hope of today’s world.

This is the first time that TOHO Animation has ventured into a new story.” Sumikata Waki, producer at Orange, which is producing the film, commented, “Through the technology and direction we have cultivated, including ‘Godzilla SP,’ we hope to reflect our passion in this Godzilla film further. We are also looking forward to collaborating with Igloo Studio, an award-winning animation studio.” Igloo Studio Founder & CEO Nat Yoswatananont also commented, “It is an honor to be involved with the Godzilla IP, which has influenced so many people. I hope to be able to project the various feelings of people around the world living in this modern era into the Godzilla story.”
