It has been revealed that the TV anime Awashima Hyakkei, based on Takako Shimura’s original work, will begin broadcasting in 2026. The staff, teaser visuals, and teaser video have also been released.
“Awashima Hyakkei” is an omnibus-style youth ensemble drama that depicts the light and shadow of girls who attend an opera school with the dream of standing on the stage.
The animation will be produced by Madhouse, known for “Frieren’s Funeral” and “Chi About the Earth’s Movement”. In addition, Asaka Morio, who has worked on “Chihayafuru” and “Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru”, will be the director, and Hamada Kunihiko will be the character designer. Nakanishi Yasuhiro will be in charge of composing the series. Along with this announcement, an illustration with comments from Shimura, Director Shimura, and Hamada has arrived.
Comment from Takako Shimura (original author): “Awashima Hyakkei” will be made into an anime. I am thrilled to be blessed with such an excellent production team. Please meet the characters who jump out of the paper and move vividly.
Comment from Morio Asaka (Director): Light and shadow. Past and future. Success and failure. These words may seem contradictory, but they are side by side. I feel strongly about this work; life and death are like old friends. Whether you have regrets or not, we have all been there. What is your dream? For everyone, whether you have achieved your dream or not, “One Hundred Views of Awashima.”
Comment from Kunihiko Hamada (Character Designer): I am fortunate to be able to absorb Takako Shimura’s skillful drawings as a character designer. I will leave the directing to Director Asaka. Although capturing the charm of the original drawings in animation is difficult, I will challenge myself to see how far I can reproduce them. I would also like to work hard to create a work that conveys Shimura’s charm to people who do not know her and gains many fans.
