Avex announced its consolidated financial results for the second quarter (interim period) of the fiscal year ending March 2025 on the 7th. Sales were down 12.8% year-on-year to 56,131 million yen, and operating profit was a loss of 2,122 million yen (profit of 2,167 million yen in the same period last year). In addition to the decrease in large-scale live performances and sluggish sales of music package works, an increase in general expenses also contributed to the pressure on profits.

The animation and video business’s sales increased 24.7% year-on-year to 8,985 million yen. The business’s operating profit was 45 million yen, an improvement from last year’s interim period when a loss of 187 million yen was recorded. The company explained that the reason for the recovery in performance was “good movie box office sales.”

Avex was involved in the production of the animated film ” Look Back ” based on the manga artist Tatsuki Fujimoto in June this year, and the success of this work was also mentioned in the materials. Based on a one-shot manga, this work is relatively short, at less than an hour. Still, it features elaborate expressions and a story related to the creators, and it became a hot topic when it ranked first in the box office revenue rankings for the first three days after its release.

The company also reached a million viewers in August of this year. This material appealed that it has attracted a great response overseas, saying, “Domestic box office revenue has exceeded 2 billion yen, and overseas it has exceeded 1.9 billion yen and is currently being screened.” Until now, it has been screened mainly in Asia and North America, but in the future, it is scheduled to be screened in South America, such as Peru, Bolivia, and Uruguay, and in Eastern Europe, such as Poland and Russia.

From Friday, November 8th, it will be exclusively available for unlimited viewing on Amazon Prime Video. The work is expected to reach a wider audience, and the impact of distribution fees and other factors will increase.
