Baku Yumemakura x Jiro Taniguchi’s masterpiece ‘Mountain of the Gods’ Buddha animated film will be screened in July

On the 12th, the animated movie “The Summit of the Gods,” which recorded the mobilization of more than 130,000 people in France, will be screened in Japan this summer. The key visual was also released on the same day. The best-selling novel by writer Baku Yumemakura and the manga work drawn by Jiro Taniguchi, who boasts overwhelming drawing power, is also a hit. Taniguchi, who died in 2017, also participated in the animation production, which took seven years to complete and was screened in 2021 in France. In Japan, it will be released nationwide from July 8th at Shinjuku Piccadilly, Human Trust Cinema Yurakucho, etc.

The production team of the animated movie “Wolfwalkers” pursues the real life-threatening climbing scene that cannot be reproduced in live-action to the limit and expresses it with a masterpiece image. It was screened in more than 300 theaters in France and recorded a hit with over 130,000 mobilizations. Although Netflix has acquired distribution rights worldwide, it has been decided to release it on the screen in Japan.

The novel “Kamigami no Yamamine” (Shueisha Bunko / Kadokawa Bunko) by Baku Yumemakura won the Shibata Renzaburo Award in 1998. Jiro Taniguchi’s “The Summit of the Gods” (Shueisha Bunko), a cartoon version of this work, also won the Excellence Award in the Manga Division at the 5th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2001. Taniguchi is known as “Yasujiro Ozu in the manga world” in France and is proud of being awarded the Chevalier badge of the Order of Arts and Culture by the French Ministry of Culture. It was decided to make it into an anime movie, and Taniguchi also went to France twice to participate in the production during his lifetime.

This work will be screened in a dubbed version of the gorgeous voice actors only in Japan, the country of origin. Kenyu Horiuchi, who is known for dubbing Brad Pitt and anime such as “Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ” and “Pokemon,” is in charge of the voice of one of the main characters Makoto Fukamachi. The voice of the solitary climber Takeji Hanyu, who has an overwhelming presence in this work, is the snake of the world-famous game “Metal Gear Solid” series from animations such as “Ghost in the Shell” and “Black Jack.” Akio Otsuka is known for his work. In addition, Ryota Osaka of “Kimetsu no Yaiba” played the role of Hanyu’s junior Buntaro, and Asami Imai, famous in “THE IDOLM @ STER,” played the role of Ryoko, who holds the clue to Hanyu’s whereabouts.
