The anime Solo Leveling hasn’t been able to take off in Japan.

The first Blu-ray volume of Studio A-1 Pictures’ anime Solo Leveling, which is based on the same-named manhwa, was released on March 27. The series hasn’t had much of an impact in the Japanese market despite being the third-highest-ranked anime of Winter 2024 on MyAnimeList.

As stated by CBR, Solo Leveling was not among the top 20 best-selling titles for the week of March 25–31, according to data from Oricon, a Japanese company that records Blu-ray and DVD sales.

Girls Und Panzer Final Chapter Part 4 topped the chart with 32,614 copies sold, and Gushing over Magical Girls, Volume 1 came in second with 8,114 copies. Mashle: Divine Visionary Selection Exam Arc Volume 1, which came in at number 20, managed to sell 634 copies. The fact that Solo Leveling isn’t listed in the rankings shows that sales were below expectations.

Why There Is No Difference in Solo Leveling Sales and Why It Is Low?

The low sales of Solo Leveling in Japan could be attributed to a number of things. Because the Jang Sung-rak-illustrated manhwa was initially intended for a South Korean audience, its fan base in Japan may be lower than that of domestically produced series.

Furthermore, the manga’s unfavorable depiction of Japan might have turned off some Japanese readers, which would have affected their interest in the anime adaptation.

The environment of the anime industry is changing, though, and Blu-ray sales are no longer the only indicator of a series’ viability and likelihood of continuation. With anime’s rapid rise in popularity around the world, attention is now more focused on product and streaming money. For example, Chainsaw Man managed to get a movie announcement even though Blu-ray sales were below average.

Furthermore, Solo Leveling’s amazing rating of 8.35/10 from over 250,000 users on MyAnimeList shows how popular and successful it is outside of Japan.

The show’s future may ultimately depend on its capacity to draw in more viewers via streaming services and spark interest in related items, as the anime industry continues to adjust to the shifting worldwide market.

You may watch the Solo Leveling anime series on Crunchyroll if you haven’t already. The release date for Solo Leveling season 2 has not been determined, however it has been announced.
