Director Joe Dante has criticized “The Child,” the famous character of “The Mandalorian,” as Baby Yoda, as a Mogwai pakuri from “Gremlin.”
“Gremlin” is a 1984 panic movie about the uproar over a rare pet given to Christmas. Director Steven Spielberg is the executive producer, and director Dante is taking the megaphone. Mogwai, a mysterious creature named “Gizmo” as a gift, is usually very lovely, but if the “three promises” are broken, it will multiply the evil monster Gremlin. In 1990, the sequel “Gremlin 2 New, Seed, Birth, and Life” was released.
“I think the secret to longevity lies in the charm of this character because it’s essentially like a baby,” said Dante, explaining why Gremlin is still so popular nearly 40 years after its release. It will be revealed in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle. However, he criticized the spin-off drama “Mandalorian” of “Star Wars.” “I have to talk about Baby Yoda (if I talk about Mogwai’s charm). It’s a perfectly full, explicit copy. I think they’re shameless.”
The Hollywood Reporter asked John Favreau, director of The Mandalorian’s planning and production, to comment on the matter, but he said he didn’t get a response.
The TV anime version of “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai” will soon be available on HBO Max. Director Dante is an executive producer.
