Amazon Prime March viewing ranking: 3rd place “SAKAMOTO DAYS”
”SAKAMOTO DAYS” is a battle x comedy action drama that revolves around Taro Sakamoto, a former strongest assassin. The original is a popular manga currently being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, with a total circulation of over 7 million copies.

The protagonist, Sakamoto, admired by all assassins for his strength, retired from assassin work after meeting and falling in love with Aoi, a convenience store clerk. He married, had children, and lived happily, but Sakamoto had become fat. His former muscular and bright appearance was no longer there, and he had become a middle-aged, overweight man.

This is a relatively rare setting for the protagonist of a shonen manga, and its eccentricity has attracted attention in the winter anime. Even though he is retired, his skills have not become dull, and he can still use his strength when the time comes, wiping out the enemies of the underground organization in an instant with his blinding speed and stability.

The gap between Sakamoto’s appearance and movements as a former assassin and convenience store clerk, the stylish battle scenes, and the silly everyday scenes make this a work with many ups and downs. Sakamoto is so strong that even after his retirement, various forces have kept an eye on him.

The setting is reminiscent of Keanu Reeves in the movie “John Wick.” Although he usually hides his strength by acting like an ordinary person, as an assassin, he is at the maximum level, and no one can beat him, so the fact that the protagonist starts as the strongest is also reminiscent of “One Punch Man”.

Also, by chance, psychics Asakura Shin and Riku Shoto join the convenience store run by Sakamoto, and the style in which bonds are formed as a pseudo-family is reminiscent of “Gintama.” Furthermore, the voice actor is Sugita Tomokazu, who is well known for his Gintama voice, so many people will feel that the elements of “Gintama” are strong. This work has the charm of taking the best parts of various works, like a remix.

The fight scenes are serious yet silly, half-playful and half-joking, making for a unique and addictive action scene. Sakamoto’s fighting style is exciting, with plenty of unexpected developments that make you wonder, “Is that how you defend yourself?” or “Is that even an acceptable way to attack?” You’re sure to be shocked and laughing at the same time.
