It began broadcasting on TOKYO MX and other stations on Saturday, July 13 and has received much attention for its highly innovative ending video, which was released for the first time. [Video] It’s the first time in 10 years since “Sazae-san” that a new cel animation has been broadcast on terrestrial TV…Watch the much-talked-about ending video. This anime is based on the light novel of the same name by Takibi Amemori, winner of the 15th Shogakukan Gagaga Award.
The character design is by Imigimuru, known for “Lycoris Recoil,” the animation is produced by one of Japan’s leading “A-1 Pictures,” so fans of the original work have been looking forward to it. The anime will be broadcast on TOKYO MX from 24:30 on Saturday, July 13, and the fastest streaming will start on ABEMA.
As the title suggests, the series will feature a new style of defeat story depicting the youth of the “losing heroines” who were unable to win the position of the lover of their beloved. The first episode was a fitting first episode, with that running unfolding. Among them, the ending prepared at the end of the main story especially drew the viewers’ attention.
The ending theme song for the first episode was “LOVE 2000” by Hitomi, and it was covered by the foodie childhood friend heroine Anna Yanami (voiced by Hikaru Tono ), who also appeared in the main story. Everyone in that generation knew it was a famous song, so it received much attention. On the other hand, what attracted the same or even more attention was the fact that the production process used “cel and live-action,” and since cel animation is very rare in today’s world where digital animation is mainstream, viewers were surprised and asked, “Is this the Reiwa era?”
Now, the ultra-rare “McCain” ending has caused a stir.
The footage is available on the YouTube channel “Aniplex,” so please check it out. People involved have shared behind-the-scenes stories about the production of cel animation. Among them, Cruiser Bonta ( @bonta634 ) said that he designed the footage and released a making-of video on his account, X. It was shot with an 8mm film camera, and scenes in which the feet of characters appear against a live-action background were expressed using cels (drawing pictures on transparent sheets and filming them over each other), bringing out the nostalgia and warmth that is unique to cel animation and stop-motion video, and giving it a flavor that cannot be found in digital. Roppo Art Supplies, which handles art supplies for cel animation, also commented on this post.
In addition to reporting that the store’s cel paints were used, they also celebrated the achievement of the new cel animation on terrestrial television, saying that it was the first in 10 years and nine months since Sazae-san on September 29, 2013, making it a record-breaking event that goes beyond just the ending.
