Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair (KyotoMaf) 2025, the most prominent manga, anime, and game event in Western Japan, will be held at Miyako Messe, ROHM Theatre Kyoto, and Kyoto International Manga Museum on September 20th and 21st, 2025. A “KyoMaf collaboration visual” has been released, featuring collaborations between the event and popular anime works such as “Kaiju No. 8,” “Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus,” “Dandadan,” ” Tougen Anki,” “The Summer When the Light Died,” and “Lycoris Recoil.”
Kyomaf, or the Kyoto International Manga and Anime Fair, launched in 2012 to expand the content market in the Kansai region, centered around Kyoto, through initiatives such as supporting the creation of new businesses utilizing manga and anime, supporting the development of creators and creating employment opportunities, attracting new tourists, especially young people and foreign visitors, and promoting manga and anime culture overseas to enhance Kyoto’s brand as a content city. Now in its 14th year, this is the most prominent manga, anime, and game festival in Western Japan. As one of the few large-scale content events in Western Japan, it attracts many visitors every year, especially manga, anime, and game fans. It also serves as a major Kyoto event, supporting creators in Kyoto and boosting the city’s anime and game production industry.
The Kyomaf collaboration visuals this time feature illustrations (with some exceptions) explicitly created for Kyomaf. This year’s theme is “The Best of Kyoto,” and characters from popular anime are depicted against the backdrop of six “special” spots in Kyoto that are hidden away and known only to those in the know.
The backdrops for “Kaiju No. 8” are the Lake Biwa Canal Memorial Museum, “Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus” is Oharano Shrine, “Dandadan” is Ohara Sanzenin Temple, “Tougen Anki” is Kurama Station, “The Summer Where the Light Died” is Yase-Hieizanguchi Station, and “Lycoris Recoil” is the Takao Momijiya (riverside terrace) in Kyoto. The venue will feature exhibits and original merchandise featuring these “Kyomaf collaboration visuals.” The Kyomaf Shop will also sell merchandise featuring this year’s main visual, featuring Kyoto City’s PR mascot “Kyouno Tsukasa” and Kyoto City Transportation Bureau Subway and City Bus mascot “Uzumasa Moe.”
A wide variety of merchandise will be available, from classic favorites like acrylic keychains and clear files to perfect souvenirs like yatsuhashi and tea. Additionally, the character cafe area will feature the “Kyomaf Cafe Stand,” offering original Kyomaf food and drinks. Customers who purchase a select menu item will receive a randomly selected coaster featuring a Kyomaf collaboration design.
The cafe restaurant “CAFE & BBQ TERRACE ABURU” inside Miyako Messe will also offer original menu items created by Okoshiyasu Ambassadors Nobuhiko Okamoto and Manaka Iwami. To commemorate the release of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Castle Arc Chapter 1: Akaza Returns,” the special Mugenjo-go train currently running nationwide, and Mini Corps member Tanjiro Kamado will appear at the Kyomaf 2025 venue.
There will also be a family corner featuring a variety of events, including costumed greetings by popular characters like Rascal, interactive workshops, and traditional industry experiences, so be sure to stop by if you’re visiting with children. Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair (Kyomaf) 2025, the most prominent manga, anime, and game event in Western Japan, will be held at Miyako Messe, ROHM Theatre Kyoto, and Kyoto International Manga Museum on September 20th and 21st, 2025. Advance tickets, which allow you to enter a lottery to watch various stage events, are on sale until 11:59 pm on August 20th. Please check the official website for further details.
