The eighth installment of the “100 Monster Scenes in Anime” project for “Kaiju No. 8,” an anime based on the popular manga by Matsumoto Naoya that is currently being serialized on Shueisha’s manga app “Shonen Jump+,” has been released.
The project depicts scenes from everyday life not described in the main story, as well as battles with monsters, and allows viewers to imagine “a world where monsters appear.” The image, themed around Setsubun, features Ichikawa Reno, Hoshina Soushirou, and Furuhashi Iharu. Reno and Iharu are seen throwing beans at Hoshina, who is wearing a Kaiju No. 10 mask and playing the role of a demon, giving us a glimpse into the relationship between the two.
“Kaiju No. 8” has been serialized in “Shonen Jump+” since July 2020. Set in Japan, a monster superpower where monsters mercilessly invade everyday life, the story follows the adventures of the protagonist, Hibino Kafka, whose body has been transformed into a beast by a mysterious creature. It also attracted attention in 2021 when it was selected as the grand prize winner in the web manga category of the “Next Manga Awards 2021.” The comic has sold over 17 million copies in Japan.
The anime will be produced by Production IG, which has worked on the Ghost in the Shell series, and Studio Khara, which has worked on the Rebuild of Evangelion series, will be responsible for monster design and works. The first season of the TV anime will be broadcast from April to June 2024, and it was also a hot topic streamed worldwide in real-time on Twitter in conjunction with the TV broadcast.
A compilation of the first season and “Hoshino’s Holiday” will only be screened in theaters for three weeks from March 28. The second season will be broadcast on Tokyo TV and other networks starting in July.
