Kyoto Animation’s latest TV anime, “20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku – Eureka Evrika”, has been scheduled to air in 2026. This will be the directorial debut of Ota Minoru, and the main cast will include Uchida Yuuma and Amamiya Sora. Along with the announcement, the first promotional video and the first key visual have also been released.
“20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku – Eureka Evrika” is a TV anime based on the light novel “20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku” by Hiroshi Yuki, which won the Encouragement Award at the 8th Kyoto Animation Awards. Set in Kyoto in the early 20th century, a time when only steam engines were developed, unlike the present, the story unfolds as a tale of adventure between a boy devastated by the loss of his older brother, with whom he shared a dream of the “age of electricity,” and a devout girl, filled with longing and regret for her late mother. As the characters grapple with the secrets of the “20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku,” a story of “rebirth” unfolds, rediscovering their dreams and selves.
This is the latest work from Kyoto Animation, which produced “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid the Movie: The Lonely Dragon” and the TV anime “CITY THE ANIMATION” in 2025, and is preparing for the theatrical release of the first part of “Sound! Euphonium” in spring 2026. Director Ota Minoru is an up-and-coming director who has worked on many popular episodes, including as the instrument animation director for “Sound! Euphonium 3” and as a director for Kyoto Animation. This will be his directorial debut.
The series will be written by Urahata Tatsuhiko, who wrote the script for the “Violet Evergarden” series and the series composition and script for “Baki”, and the character design and chief animation director will be Ayato Yoshida, who worked on “Free! Okamura Kohei, who is responsible for character design and general animation direction for “The Final Stroke,” and Suzuki Takaaki, who served as researcher and supervisor for the “Violet Evergarden” series and “Girls und Panzer,” are in charge of world design. Hitomi Koto, who will be working on her first animation soundtrack, will be composing the music.
The main cast includes Yuuma Uchida, known for his roles as Megumi Fushiguro in “Jujutsu Kaisen” and Jun Yotaka in “Medalist,” as the protagonist Kihachi Sakamoto, and Sora Amamiya, known for her roles as Kanade Hisaishi in “Sound! Euphonium” and Aqua in “KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World!”, as the heroine Inako Momokawa. Uchida, who plays Kihachi, commented, “I was fired up to build on my acting with sensitivity.” Amamiya, who plays Inako, commented, “It’s a new type of acting, and even after I was cast, every episode has been a constant challenge.”
Additionally, the first promotional video has been released, showcasing Kyoto Animation’s bold artistic backgrounds reminiscent of impressionist paintings, captivating viewers with its meticulous animation. While this is the first trailer, it already showcases the film’s worldview in abundance, featuring character voices from Kihachi Sakamoto and Ineko Momokawa.
The first key visual, also unveiled, is a newly drawn illustration by character designer Kohei Okamura. Kihachi and Ineko gaze intently at us amidst the steam-filled streets of Kyoto, hinting at the start of an adventure.

We look forward to further updates. Director Minoru Ota: This work is a story of “rebirth” in which each character begins with some setback and rises again through repeated encounters and conflicts.
The sight of these characters, openly expressing their emotions and moving forward with single-minded determination, is sure to warm your heart. The matte setting further emphasizes the drama of their lives, creating a fresh and enjoyable visual experience. Please see this new frontier in the Kyoto Animation world for yourself. Series Composition: Tatsuhiko Urahata. While it’s been over 20 years since the 21st century began, the story we bring you today takes place over 100 years earlier, at the beginning of the 20th century.
In a world slightly different from ours, an older brother dreams of a century of electricity, while his younger brother, Kihachi, pursues the dream he left behind. And Ineko, who encounters Kihachi, carves out a new life for herself. Enjoy their story set in an unfamiliar Kyoto at the beginning of the 20th century! Character Design, Chief Animation Director: Kohei Okamura World Setting: Takaaki Suzuki In creating “20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku Eureka Evrika,” we racked our brains to create a world that could have existed, one that’s similar to the world we know, yet somehow different. We racked our brains to make the most compelling portrayal of the characters and world without straying from the story’s theme. We hope viewers will be inspired to visit “that world.” Music by Koto Hitomi. I’m Koto Hitomi, and I’m in charge of the music.
I believe that in life, we often experience doubt and anxiety. We may doubt various information, other people’s stories, our own hearts, and even ourselves at times. However, in today’s world, where all kinds of speculation are flying around, doubt is necessary. However, I believe that what sustains people’s hearts is, as always, “faith.” Strong faith, when combined, can sometimes lead to miracles we could never have imagined on our own. I believe this is how people have “recovered” throughout history.
I feel that “20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku Eureka Evrika” is a work that reminds us of what we must never forget, like a fire quietly burning in our hearts, illuminating us in secret. Through music, I can sometimes comfort and encourage the characters as they weave their lives together. I also hope that it will light a light in the hearts of everyone who watches. Yuuma Uchida as Kihachi Sakamoto: I’m pleased to be playing the role of Kihachi Sakamoto.
This work is set in an era when steam, not electricity, was the norm. Even during the audition, I was directed to keep this era in mind. I remember feeling motivated to craft my acting carefully. I’ll do my best to make it enjoyable for many people! “20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku Eureka Evrika” Please check it out! Amamiya Sora, who plays Momokawa Inako: When I saw the setting materials during the audition, I was so impressed by the beautiful illustrations and the characters’ lines in the manuscript, which were so endearing and earnest. I felt a strong desire to be involved in this work and to play Inako! The thoughts of many people intertwine as they search for the Electric Catalog and strive for the era of electricity.
While it may seem serious, there are also some crazy gags, making it a truly colorful work! For me, this is a new type of acting, and even after I was cast, every episode has been a challenge, but I’ll do my best to portray the straightforward Inako, who values her beliefs, appealingly!
