Original author Nagano also provided a congratulatory message with an illustration.
“Magical Chikawa” is a magical girl-themed work featuring characters from Nagano’s manga “Chiikawa,” initially published by X (formerly Twitter). A merchandise sales event held at Tokyo Character Street Ichiban Plaza in Tokyo Station Ichibangai in the summer of 2022 attracted many visitors, captivating a broad audience with its unique worldview, distinct from the usual “Chiikawa.”
The following year, in 2023, the enhanced “Super Magical Chikawa” was launched. Currently, permanent “Magical Chikawa Stores” are open at Shinjuku Marui, Umeda HEP FIVE, and Nagoya Parco.
The special music video for this work, “Magical Syndrome,” was produced by yama, a solo singer from social media who made a stunning debut in April 2020 with her original song “Haru wo Tsugeru.” yama is a popular artist with many hit songs, including “Shikisai,” the ending theme for ” SPY×FAMILY,” and “slash,” the opening theme for “Mobile Suit Gundam: Mercury Witch.” “Magical Syndrome,” written specifically for this project, is a magical song with a bright and poppy impression, yet it is also slightly melancholic.
The video was animated by ENISHIYA, an up-and-coming animation studio currently garnering attention for its work on the anime series “Takopi no Original Sin.” Directed by Tanaka Yuta, who has been involved in storyboarding and directing for many of the “PreCure” series, including the 20th anniversary film “PreCure All Stars F,” the film features character design by Saito Hiroyuki, known for ” Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight ” and “Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress.” The music video features a variety of fast-paced animations, aiming to create a new way of expressing “Chiikawa” through animation.
The video has been released on YouTube with lyrics subtitles in five languages, allowing fans around the world to enjoy it, and the response is sure to be interesting.
