The “Domannaka Anime Film Festival: New Era,” an anime screening event, will be held at Midland Square Cinema (4 Meieki, Nakamura-ku, Nagoya) from October 3rd. (Meieki Keizai Shimbun) This spin-off project is a spin-off of the “Domannaka Anime Film Festival,” an event held at the same cinema in May that screened anime from the 1980s.
“New Era” will screen five anime works from the late 1990s to the 2000s on the cinema’s big screen. Before and after each screening, guests related to the works, such as voice actors, animators, and producers, will take to the stage for talks.
General Producer Yoshihide Kondo said, “Until now, we’ve focused on works from the 1980s, but I have the impression that anime from that era was primarily for a male audience. Entering the 2000s, more female fans began to visit theatrical anime, and the movie theater landscape changed dramatically. For this spin-off, we’ve selected a list of works to create a film festival that is more enjoyable for women.”
The lineup is as follows: “Ah! My Goddess the Movie, “Revolutionary Girl Utena the Movie: The Adolescence Apocalypse,” “Millennium Actress,” “Macross F the Movie: The Itsuwari no Utahime,” and “Macross F the Movie: The Wings of Farewell.” On the 4th and 5th, there will also be screenings with guest talk events. Guests appearing on stage are: on the 4th, Hikawa Ryusuke from “Ah! My Goddess the Movie,” on the 5th, Ikuhara Kunihiko (interviewer Fujitsu Ryota) from “Revolutionary Girl Utena the Movie: The Adolescence Apocalypse,” Murai Sadayuki (interviewer Misaki Tomoko) from “Millennium Actress,” and Kawamori Shoji (interviewer Ishii Makoto ) from “Macross F the Movie: The Itsuwari no Utahime” and “Macross F the Movie: The Wings of Farewell .”
Kondo said, “Each film is a masterpiece that vividly colors its respective era and has left a deep impression on audiences. It’s a fitting lineup for the first step in the new ‘Domannaka’.” On the 4th, the second “Ueda Anime Film Festival” will also be held, where former Aniplex president Masuro Ueda will provide live commentary while screening anime films he produced.
This time, Michihiko Suwa will be invited as a guest to screen “Inuyasha: A Timeless Feeling.” Tickets range from 1,500 to 2,000 yen. The special screening with a talk event is 3,800 to 5,200 yen for adults and 2,800 to 5,200 yen for students and younger people. The Ueda Anime Film Festival costs 4,400 yen for adults and 3,400 yen for students and those under 18 years old. It runs until October 9th.
