Mayumi Tanaka (67), a voice actress known for her role as Monkey D. Luffy in the popular anime “ONE PIECE”, will appear on Fuji TV’s “Bokura no Jidai” broadcast on the 14th (Sunday before 7:00). He revealed how he became a voice actor. On this day, a talk was held with voice actors Kappei Yamaguchi and Noriko Hidaka.
Tanaka has been a voice actor for 44 years, and in addition to playing Luffy, he has also played Krillin in the anime “Dragon Ball” series and Pazu in the anime movie “Castle in the Sky”.
Yamaguchi, who co-starred as Usopp in “One Piece,” asked, “Why did you decide to become a voice actor? Mayumi-san, you’re still very energetic on stage, aren’t you?” Tanaka replied, “The theater company I entered was Theater Echo.”
“That’s why Theater Echo has been doing voice work since then, and there were people who created voice actors such as Yasuo Yamada and Lupine in the early days of so-called voice actors, and their work was voice work,” he explained. Yamaguchi continued, “The job I got into was voice work. That’s why I never thought I wanted to be a voice actor.”
