The works that I was obsessed with when I was younger
The 2025 spring anime has finished broadcasting one after another, and the broadcast of summer anime is just around the corner. This season will be the most broadcast in the history of Summer Cool, featuring many new anime, such as “Tacopi’s Original Sin” and “The Summer When Light Died.” Among them are also works that will evoke nostalgia in people in their 40s and 50s.
“Hell Teacher Nube” Since the previous anime was broadcast from 1996 to 1997, the new anime “Hell Teacher Nube” (original story by Sho Makura, art by Tsuyoshi Okano) will be broadcast for the first time in approximately 30 years. It is a story about “Nueno Meisuke (commonly known as Nube),” a teacher with a “demon hand” who is assigned to Domori Elementary School and protects his students from monsters and evil spirits.
The original work was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” (Shueisha) from 1993 to 1999, and the story, which included various elements such as horror and romantic comedy, captivated a wide range of generations. For those in their 40s and 50s, it is a work they read avidly in their teens and twenties so that it evokes nostalgia.
Another attraction is that Okiayu Ryutaro will continue to play the role of Nube, and Morikawa Toshiyuki will play the role of Tamamo Kyosuke from the previous anime. People who watched the promotional video also commented on the new cast, saying, “The voices are similar to the old anime, so it doesn’t feel strange.”
The first episode of the anime “Hell Teacher Nube” will be broadcast on TV Asahi from 11:15 p.m. on July 2nd, with two episodes in a row, and will be broadcast every Wednesday at 11:45 p.m. on the TV Asahi nationwide network, “IMAnimation W.”
“Nova Galverse” The original anime “Nova Galverse” is set in a universe where the sacred planet “Mother Planet” has disappeared, and tells the story of “Galverse,” born from the fragments of Mother Planet, fighting against the evil organization “Universe End Society” while approaching the truth of the galaxy. It was animated based on the NFT project of the same name, and over 4,000 fans raised funds for the production of the anime.
Additionally, it is notable that community members who own NFTs can actively participate in the production of the anime, which has attracted attention as a fan-participation anime. This work is a unique work that incorporates modern gal culture into the drawings reminiscent of the 1990s and 2000s, and when it was distributed the other day, it was received as a nostalgic work with comments such as “The drawings smell like the 90s”, “Oh, did we time travel? It’s Reiwa now, right? (laughs)”, and “22 minutes that you can experience the powerful battle scenes and the atmosphere of ‘that era'”. The anime “Novice Galverse” is available on the official YouTube channel.
“Night of the Living Cat” “Night of the Living Cat” (original story: Hawkman / illustrations: Mekarouts), which has attracted attention for its unusual setting, is set in a world where a virus has spread that turns humans who touch cats into cats and depicts humans surviving in a world full of cats. It is not an anime with intense battles or complicated settings, but rather a surreal depiction of the frustration of wanting to touch a cat but not being able to, so you can enjoy the work even if you watch it without using your brain. In addition, the opening will be performed by “THE YELLOW MONKEY,” a familiar band for people in their 40s and 50s.
In the main PV released the other day, you can already hear a part of the opening song “CAT CITY,” and fans have said things like “The solid rock band sound and the chaotic screen full of fluffy things are the best” and “It’s a work that will please both cat lovers and Yemon fans.” The anime “Night of the Living Cat” will be broadcast on TV Tokyo every Monday from 26:00, starting July 7th.
