Aniplex, Live2D, and Drive have teamed up to produce the original TV anime “Inheritors of the Wind,” and it has been revealed that Kishida Shigeru (of Quruli) will be providing the music for the series.
“Inheritors of the Wind” is a period drama anime depicting the fleeting youth of young people living in a turbulent era. In June 1863, a soldier with amnesia is brought to the Mibu Roshigumi barracks in Kyoto, and Okita Souji, an assistant to the Mibu Roshigumi, reaches out to him.
The story begins with the revelation, “Your name is Tachikawa Jinsuke,” and follows the amnesiac Jinsuke’s life as a soldier. Amid the chaos of the late Edo period, the Mibu Roshigumi ( Shinsengumi ) begins to grow in influence, and Jinsuke and his men are swept up in the turbulent waves. The film will be directed by Kawamura Tomohiro and written by Narii Yutaka.
This will be Kishida’s first time working on a soundtrack for a television anime. Kishida commented, “My motto for composing soundtracks is to clearly highlight the characters and worldview, while also softly enveloping the world of the work. I will continue to immerse myself in the production so that I can create great music. I hope you will look forward to it.”
Comment from Kawamura Tomohiro (Director): I am honored to be able to work with such wonderful colleagues to produce an original anime adaptation of Narii Yutaka’s new story of the Shinsengumi. Just as the Shinsengumi came together under the banner of sincerity and shared the same aspirations, we on the staff will work together as one and devote ourselves to this work. We will carefully portray every one of their passionate feelings. Please look forward to it.
Comment from Narii Yutaka (Screenplay): Nice to meet you, I am Narii Yutaka, the screenwriter. When Aniplex approached me with the request to “create the definitive Shinsengumi story,” I had never written a script for an anime before, but I immediately replied, “I’d love to! Let me do it!” I then thought of reintroducing Tachikawa Jinsuke, the protagonist of a Shinsengumi play I did with my theater group, Caramel Box. He’s a gentle-hearted man who’s terrible with a sword, but exceptionally fast. I wanted to use this man as the central character to tell the history of the Shinsengumi from scratch.
I wanted to fully portray the lives of Okita Souji and the other Shinsengumi members. In this way, I completed a new story that is entirely different from the play I did with Caramel Box. Afterwards, I had the opportunity to watch the first episode of the anime in production, and seeing the characters I wrote, Jinsuke and Okita, in action, filled my heart with emotion. I can’t wait to see the next episode! I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product myself. Comment from Kishida Shigeru (music): As someone who has always loved Japanese anime, I’m thrilled to be involved in an original Aniplex production. My motto when composing background music is to clearly bring out the characters and worldview, and to envelop the world of the work softly. I want to continue immersing myself in the production so that I can create good music. Please look forward to it.
