Here to see the top 5 rankings. So, Anime! Anime! Conducted a reader survey titled “Sunglasses Characters?” following on from last year. We received 390 responses from August 5th to August 12th. The gender ratio was roughly equal, with approximately 45% of the population being men and 55% being women.
The majority of respondents were younger, with approximately 45% under 19 years old and approximately 20% in their 20s. Sunglasses Reveal Characters’ True Faces! The top spot goes to Gojo Satoru from “Jujutsu Kaisen.” He received approximately 16% approval rating, making him the top choice for the third consecutive year. Comments include, “He wears a blindfold now, but his trademark from his high school days was his jet-black round sunglasses.
The dazzling yet heartbreaking days of his youth, depicted in “Kaitama/Gyokuori,” are etched into my memory. He has special eyes called six eyes, so he wears sunglasses to reduce the strain on them. The blue eyes he peeks out are so beautiful, they’re captivating.” Many fans even attended the theatrical compilation released this year. Some commenters praised his attractiveness both as a student and now, saying, “His round sunglasses from his school days really accentuate his mischievousness, while his square sunglasses as an adult are overflowing with sexiness! It’s hard to choose between them.” Another request was, “He looks good in anything, so I’d love to see him wear more glasses.”
In second place is Madao from “Gintama.” He received a support rate of about 15 percent, marking his third consecutive year in second place. Characters who are loved despite being treated carelessly make the list, with comments like, “When Madao doesn’t wear sunglasses, I wonder who he is,” “I can’t even picture his real face. What did he look like?”, “His sunglasses are his true character,” and “In the Soul Swap arc, Yamazaki Tai’s soul inhabits Madao’s sunglasses, and it was so awful I laughed.”
The series is showing signs of renewed momentum, with the spinoff “Ginpachi Sensei, Class 3-Z” scheduled to air in October 2025 and the new movie “Gintama: The Movie – Yoshiwara Great Fire” scheduled for release in 2026. Coming in third place is Matsuda Jinpei from “Detective Conan.” He has a support rate of about 9 percent, and the same characters have occupied the top three spots for three consecutive years. Comments like, “Sunglasses, suits, and cigarettes are synonymous with Matsuda Jinpei,” and “His hard-boiled personality suits sunglasses well. I fell in love with his chivalrous spirit, willing to sacrifice himself for others!” highlight how his sunglasses have become a well-established trademark. Although he appears in a limited number of films, he plays a significant role. He is a popular character, notably starring as one of the main characters in “Wild Police Story: Police Academy Arc.”
Also ranked ninth was Vodka from the Black Organization. Here are some other comments! Regarding Nico Yazawa from “Love Live!”, she said, “She was investigating Honoka and the others who had formed a school idol group, hiding her face behind sunglasses. Her cute pigtails made her not scary at all (lol).” Regarding Muska from “Castle in the Sky,” she said, “She exuded a mysterious aura with her brown sunglasses. His subordinates also wear sunglasses, and in one scene, Pazu calls them the ‘black glasses guys.” His Balusu must be incredibly powerful to blind someone like him.”
Regarding Kizaru (Borsalino) from “One Piece,” she said, “At first, I thought he was a villain, but he became more human in the Egghead arc. His line, ‘I thought you were going to use something stronger, sunglasses,’ brought me to tears.” For “Zombie Land Saga”‘s Tatsumi Kotaro, he’s a producer with the crazy idea of turning zombies into an idol group.
