The first 3DCG movie, “Shin-jig! Crayon Shin-chan THE MOVIE: Supernatural Battle—Tobetobe Hand Rolled Sushi,” released in 2023, exceeded 2.47 billion yen in box office revenue, achieving the highest record in the theatrical series’ history.
The 31st movie in the “Crayon Shin-chan” series is a super-sized work in which a dinosaur, Kasukabe, who has been revived in modern times, goes on a rampage in Tokyo! There is laughter and tears, and “Crayon Shin-chan: Our Dinosaur Diary”, which depicts Shiro and the Kasukabe Defense Force meeting a small dinosaur and their friendship that transcends the boundaries of life, will be released on Friday, August 9th.
The guest voice actors for this film have now been decided! Takumi Kitamura will play a pivotal character, a role created with himself in mind, and the two Oswalds will make their voice-acting debut, adding a fresh dynamic to the movie.
Billy, a biology researcher who loves dinosaurs, is played by Kitamura Takumi. He has starred in the Tokyo Revengers movie series and is making his presence known in the Sunday Theatre “Anti-Hero” (TBS). Billy is always up for a lot of attention. His role is to work with Shinnosuke and the Kasukabe Defense Force to uncover the secret of Nana, a small dinosaur that Shiro met on the banks of the Kasukabe River.
When asked about his memories related to Shin-chan, Kitamura revealed an episode overflowing with his love for the series, saying, “When the Crayon Shin-chan movies were released, I would go see them with my family. The Nohara family was similar to my own family, so I felt very comfortable with them, and it was a show I loved since I was a child.”
He also seemed moved by director Sasaki’s letter, saying, “When I heard about the role, the director wrote me a letter in his handwriting that the character of ‘Billy’ was created with Takumi Kitamura in mind, and I was moved.”
In addition, the comedians Oswald (Shunsuke Ito and Yu Hatanaka) have also been selected as guest voice actors! As regular finalists in the M-1 Grand Prix and the winners of the 42nd ABC Comedy Grand Prix, the Oswald duo are a talented group who can be seen on TV every day, and they will be trying their hand at voice acting for the first time in this production!
It plays the role of Ammoner Ito, the operator and systems administrator of Dino’s Island, a vast theme park that brings dinosaurs back to life in modern times and which Shinnosuke, the Kasukabe Defense Force, and Ai-chan visit. Hatanaka plays the role of Chu, a staff member at Dino’s Island.
Ito commented happily about appearing in the “Crayon Shin-chan Movie,” saying, “I’m thrilled that they made an effort to offer us the opportunity to appear as guests in the movie once a year. It was the first time I thought, ‘Maybe we’re popular?'” Hatanaka also commented happily about appearing in the “Crayon Shin-chan Movie,” saying, “I wondered, ‘Why us?’ but when I talked to the director, I found out he loves comedy, and I realized that I was getting this job because of that connection. It made me realize I had to keep up my regular manzai routine and not slack off.”
