At the end of the second episode of the Pillar Training Arc of the TV anime ” Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, ” which aired on Sunday, May 19th, “Tokoshie” by HYDE × MY FIRST STORY was unveiled as the ending theme song.
The ending theme song ‘Eikyuu Tokoshie’ is a unique collaboration between HYDE, the renowned vocalist and solo artist of L’Arc-en-Ciel/VAMPS/THE LAST ROCKSTARS, and the solitary rock band MY FIRST STORY. The song’s lyrics, composition, and arrangement were masterfully crafted by Yuki Kajiura, who has a rich history of creating music for ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. ‘
Comment from HYDE
HYDE shares his emotional journey during the creation of ‘Tokoshie ‘. He reveals how ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ brought out a different side of him, one that was more aggressive than rock. He felt a sense of falling from grace, a journey he embarked on together with MY FIRST STORY. The addictive lyrics and melodies are a testament to this journey, and he invites the audience to enjoy the music along with the story.
Comment from Hiro (MY FIRST STORY)
This was my first time working with Kajiura on “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.” The most challenging and fun part was taking something that someone else made and incorporating it into my singing to express it in my way. I’m sure Kajiura had both expectations and anxiety about how his creation would be described, but thanks to his pleasing personality, it turned out to be a pretty good piece of work.
Furthermore, “Tokoshie” also features HYDE’s singing voice. I hope people will feel that it has added even a little to the work of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.”
Comment from Yuki Kajiura: I was honored to compose, write the lyrics, and arrange the song “Eternal – Tokoshie” that decorates the ending theme of the TV anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” Pillar Training Arc.
It was a dream collaboration with HYDE and MY FIRST STORY, and I got goosebumps just from the feeling that the two of them breathed their soul into every word when I recorded the song. I hope you enjoy “Eternal Tokoshie” as the story accelerates towards the final stage!
The song will be available for download from 0:00 AM on Monday, May 20th. The CD will be released in two versions: a regular and a limited edition with an original illustration from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.” The limited edition DVD will include the non-credited opening and ending footage from “Hashira Training Edition.”
