This will celebrate the April 2026 broadcast of the latest installment in the “Pierrot Magical Girl Series,” “Magical Sisters Lulli Lulli Lily,” marking the legendary OVA’s 40-year theatrical return.
“Magical Angel Creamy Mami” is the first installment in the “Pierrot Magical Girl Series” and Pierrot’s first original TV anime series, making it a memorable work. Like traditional magical girl anime, it is primarily a comedy, but the drama’s emphasis on the protagonist’s emotional turmoil and everyday life creates a fresh, unprecedented feel. Another highlight is the casting of Takako Ota, a new idol singer who also sang the theme song, as the voice actor for the main character.
The groundbreaking new strategy of skillfully crossing over the fictional idol Creamy Mami with the real-life idol Takako Ota has garnered much attention. “Magical Angel Creamy Mami: Eternal Once More” is the first original video animation (OVA) of this work, featuring a digest of the TV version’s best scenes and a new story. Released in 1984, it is the first “sequel” OVA in anime history to be produced as a spin-off from the TV series.
This two-week limited nationwide screening is being held to commemorate the April 2026 broadcast of the latest installment in the “Pierrot Magical Girl Series,” “Magical Sisters Lullutto Lily.” The screening will also feature subtitle-less opening videos from five films in the “Pierrot Magical Girl Series”: “Magical Angel Creamy Mami,” “Magical Fairy Persia,” “Magical Star Magical Emi,” “Magical Idol Pastel Yumi,” and “Magical Stage Fancy Lala.”
These opening videos will be delivered in HD remastered format. Additionally, an after-talk featuring Uguisu and Azuki from the latest film, “Magical Sisters Lullutto Lily,” has also been announced. Comments have been provided by Takako Ota, who plays Yu Morisawa and Creamy Mami; Yu Mizushima, who plays Toshio Otomo; and Tomomi Mochizuki, who worked on storyboards and direction. It has also been announced that a commemorative stage greeting featuring Ota, Mizushima, and Mochizuki will be held at Aeon Cinema Itabashi in Tokyo on January 25, 2026.
A talk show will be held to reminisce about their memories from that time and share their thoughts on this film, which remains beloved even after 40 years. In addition, it has been announced that attendees will receive gifts for two consecutive weeks, something fans won’t want to miss. The story begins with Yu returning to her usual self and spending her summer vacation as a normal elementary school student. She finds a kitten that looks just like Nega and Posi. From there, Yu and Toshio see a poster of Mami hanging up. I’m so excited. This “Eternal Once More” is enjoyable no matter how many times you watch it. I’m sure some are watching it for the first time or for the first time in a while, but please take the time to rewatch it at the screening.
