Freiren is an elf who has lived for over 1000 years and is a wizard in the Hero’s party that defeated the magic. One of Freiren’s few weaknesses is that she cannot resist temptation and opens treasure chests full of mimics. It is said that when Freiren fights alone, she always comes home with frizzy hair that looks like she’s had a perm.
The anime ” Furieren: The Finale,” which is currently being streamed all at once, is based on the manga of the same name, which is currently being serialized in “Weekly Shonen Sunday” by author Yamada Kanehito and artist Abe Tsukasa. Set in a world “after” the Demon King has been defeated, the story follows the sorceress Furiren (voiced by Tanezaki Atsumi ) as she embarks on a “journey to get to know people.”
The original manga has won numerous awards and has received tremendous support and acclaim, with the total number of copies of the 14 volumes published to date exceeding 24 million. The second season of the TV anime is scheduled to air from January 2026.
Frieren is a skilled magician who defeated the Demon King alongside the Hero. However, he is so enthusiastic about collecting grimoires that he has an eye for treasure chests. When he tries to open a suspicious treasure chest on a slim chance, he falls into a trap set by a disguised Mimic and is almost eaten.
In episode 23, Frieren confidently opens a treasure chest as expected. However, a mimic nearly swallows her headfirst. She is rescued by Fern (voiced by Ichinose Kana ), who pulls her out by her legs. At this point, Fern suddenly asks Frieren how she escapes from a mimic when alone.
According to Frieren, she uses attack magic in those cases to blow up the mimic from the inside. However, she also revealed that blowing up the mimic from the inside when it is trying to swallow her whole ” makes my hair all frizzy, which I don’t like.”
Fern suddenly remembered something and said, “So that’s why my hairstyle changed now and then.” In that flashback scene, Frieren’s straight silver twin-tail hair was now curled as if she had had a perm, and she returned home dejectedly, saying, “My hair has turned into vertical curls…”
