This anime is based on “GATE SEASON 2: Thus the JSDF Fought There,” a new chapter in the “Gate” series, an alternate world vs. Self-Defense Force fantasy light novel written by Takumi Yanai and published by Alphapolis. The story features different characters from the anime “GATE: Thus the JSDF Fought There,” which aired in 2015 and depicts the main story of the “Gate” series.
This work features characters from the Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) rather than the Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF). The story revolves around MSDF Captain Goro Etajima and his subordinate, Petty Officer Second Class Tokushima Hajime, a former skilled chef. The released illustration depicts Petty Officer Second Class Tokushima Hajime, the princess of another world, Primera Luna Avion, and a submarine.
Animation will be handled by Studio M2, known for producing “PLUTO.” [Synopsis] Several years have passed since a “Gate to Another World” suddenly opened in Ginza, Chuo Ward, Tokyo, bringing chaos to our world with armed knights, infantry, and grotesque monsters. Although it was once closed, thanks to the efforts of Lieutenant Itami Yoji of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, the “Gate” was successfully reopened and is now under strict, exclusive control by the Japanese government.
Mobilized into the other world beyond the gate, known as the Special Region, the Self-Defense Forces have been conducting peaceful exchanges with the residents and conducting various investigations. However, the Special Region is a vast world, and the Self-Defense Forces are being forced to act cautiously to avoid impacting the local culture and environment.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Tokushima Hajime, a former chef and member of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, and his superior, Captain 1st Class Etajima Goro, are aboard the Oyashio-class submarine “Kitashio,” sailing through the Avion Sea, a far-off ocean unaffected by Japanese influence. Tokushima and Etajima infiltrate the trading nation of Tinae to rescue a kidnapped American journalist. There, they meet and eventually work together with Tinae’s princess, Primera Luna Avion; Shura No Arch, a daughter of righteous pirates; and Odette Se Nevula, a Winged Emperor (Avie) girl who serves as the ship’s guardian.
However, the land is in the midst of war, with neighboring island nations and pirates vying for supremacy. It’s also home to mysterious creatures, including armored whales, and they find themselves embroiled in a variety of unimaginable challenges. Will Tokushima and Etajima be able to overcome the crises that arise one after another together with Princess Primera and the others and complete their mission safely?
