‘Tougen Anki’ is ranked #1 in Japan on Netflix and in the top 5 globally! Tremendous response both at home and abroad

The TV anime “Tougen Anki” has been generating a huge buzz both in Japan and overseas. In the third week of July 2025, it ranked fifth in Netflix’s “Global Top 10 (Non-English TV Series)” and reached number one in Japan. “Tougen Anki” is a new-generation dark hero tale based on the manga by Yuuki Urushibara, currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion, which has sold over 4 million copies. Based on the folktale “Momotaro,” a familiar tale to all Japanese people, the story depicts the conflict between those descended from demons and those descended from Momotaro. Animation is produced by Studio Hibari, with director Ato Nonaka, series composition and script by Yukie Sugawara, character design by Ryoko Amisaki, and music by Kohta Yamamoto.

The protagonist, Ichinose Shiki, is voiced by Nozomi Urawa. At the same time, Mudano Mujin, an instructor at Raksha Academy, where Shiki and her friends attend, is played by Hiroshi Kamiya, and Shiki’s classmate, Kougasaki Jin, is played by Kotaro Nishiyama. The opening theme song is by THE ORAL CIGARETTES, and the ending theme is by BAND-MAID.

The series is currently streaming worldwide on Netflix, Crunchyroll, Prime Video, and the YouTube channel “It’s Anime powered by REMOW.” Viewership and engagement across platforms are steadily increasing, and global excitement is building on social media with fan art, reaction videos, and comments. “Togen Anki” is currently streaming in Japan on ABEMA every Friday night at midnight.
