The TV anime “Jadugal of the Tent” will begin airing on TV Asahi’s “IMAnimation” slot on 24 stations nationwide and on BS Asahi starting in July 2026. A teaser trailer, teaser visuals, and staff information have also been released.
Based on the manga of the same name by Tomato Soup, currently serialized in Souffle, this work is a harem tale set in 13th-century Mongolia. It follows Sitara (Fatima), a former slave captured by the Mongol Empire, as she meets Dregene, the sixth wife of the Mongol emperor, who harbors complicated feelings toward the empire. She uses her wits to shake up the empire.
The original manga won first place in the women’s section of Takarajimasha’s “This Manga is Amazing! 2023” awards and was ranked in the “Manga Taisho” awards for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024.
The animation is produced by Science SARU, known for works such as “Dandadan,” “The Tale of the Heike,” and “Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!” In the 13th century, a young girl lived in a slave market in Iran. This is the story of a witch who tormented a vast continent. Having lost her mother, Sitara was sent far from home. Still a child with no way to survive on her own or hope for the future, she was taken in by a family of scholars and taught the ways of a peaceful life.
Meanwhile, the Mongol Empire, the most powerful on earth under Emperor Genghis Khan, repeatedly invaded other countries and steadily expanded its power. When this ambition reached Sitara’s town, her everyday life ended, and her destiny began to change dramatically. The teaser trailer, released this time, depicts the protagonist, Sitara, running through the 13th-century Iranian city of Tus, with its bustling bazaar and beautiful architecture, in Science SARU’s signature visual style.
The teaser visual also depicts a dove soaring leisurely against a vast sky, with Shitara gazing directly at us as petals dance in the wind. The project’s general director is Naoko Yamada, known for “The Tale of the Heike,” “A Silent Voice,” and “The Color of You.” The director is Abel Gongora, known for “Dandadan” season 2, “Star Wars: Visions T0-B1,” and “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.” The character designer and animation chief is Kenichi Yoshida, known for “Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven,” “OVERMAN King Gainer,” and “Chikyuugai Shonen Shoujo.”
The series is written by Kan’ichi Kato, known for “I Want to Become the Powerful One in the Shadows!”, “Black Clover,” and “Teasing Master Takagi-san.” The project also features Koshiro Hino, known for his unique musicality and deep knowledge of traditional instruments, who will provide his first anime soundtrack.
The project brings together a stellar lineup of creators active at the forefront of various fields. The anime’s official website has also been revamped. Comments have also been received from Yamada, Gongora, Yoshida, Kato, and Hino. Comments: Naoko Yamada (General Director): “Jadugal of the Tent” This story by Tomato Soup Sensei was fresh and full of stimulating surprises for me.
The characters, including Sitara, who found themselves caught in the great waves of the changing times, truly lived, thought, believed in love, and lived their lives, sometimes boldly and sometimes delicately. They are powerful and charming. We will depict the story with respect and care. We hope you enjoy! Abel Gongora (Director): The cultures that developed in the Mongol Empire and the Persian Empire were both magnificent. With deep respect for those who have inherited their cultures to the present day, we have interpreted their history, both fact and legend, in our own way.
The heroine of the original manga is strong, sharp, and exudes a unique presence. I am genuinely pleased to bring you the moment she carves out her own shining path and embarks on an epic adventure in this animation.
Yoshida Kenichi (Character Designer/Chief Animation) This is my first time working on an original work, so I’m working hard on everything! Kato Kanichi (Series Composition) I worked hard to create an anime that would capture the beauty of the original work. Long ago, in the 13th century, the grasslands of Mongolia, the beautiful night skies, and the nomadic lifestyle—through the protagonist, who acquires knowledge and survives in this different culture, I hope viewers can sense the conflicts, encounters, and hope for the future that are relevant to us today.
Hino Koshiro (Music): While the characters are all fascinating, portraying the complex emotions of Sitara, who lives a strong, resilient life despite harboring resentment and sadness, was the most significant challenge and the most rewarding. Furthermore, portraying such a subject in the modern era is very meaningful. I want to create a peaceful world in which no child like Sitara is born, regardless of the country or region.
This was my first time producing a soundtrack for an animation, and my first time producing Persian and Mongolian music, so it was a first for me. Still, I was able to complete it thanks to the two directors and the entire production team who patiently worked alongside me. I want to express my gratitude once again.
