The first volume of Shiono Kozouji’s “Übel Blatt II: Knights of the Dead King” was released today, December 24. The work is a sequel to Shiono’s dark fantasy “Übel Blatt,” which was serialized from 2004 to 2019.
“Übel Blatt” is a story about Kaintzel’s journey after he returns from the brink of death to take revenge on the “Seven Heroes” who betrayed their comrades and achieved great glory. The sequel is set in a world one year after the end of the Glenn War. Kaintzel was serving as Viceroy of Asherit in the Imperial Army led by Elsaria, who had become the Emperor, to suppress rebellions in various places.
Meanwhile, the victory ceremony attended by Elsaria, Atto, and others is attacked by the resistance force “Knights of the Dead King,” who still believe in King Glenn’s resurrection. The story is being serialized in Monthly Big Gangan (Square Enix).
A TV anime based on “Übel Blatt” will start broadcasting on TOKYO MX and other stations on January 10, 2025. To commemorate the book’s release, some bookstores will display “Worldwide Support Comment Posters.” The posters feature supportive comments in nine languages from local publishers who have translated and published “Übel Blatt.” In addition, some bookstores will distribute purchase bonuses.
The digital version will include illustration data. Some bookstores will sell a complete set of Übel Blatt with a book storage box to commemorate the anime adaptation. The box can store all volumes 0 to 23. Check the official website of the participating bookstores at Square Enix.
