In the fourth week of November, the North American film market welcomed Thanksgiving, and although two new films entered the top 10 of the box office rankings, the result was less exciting than before. Cumulative box office receipts over the five-day weekend were $138 million, lower than last year’s record for the weekend of Thanksgiving, which was also hit by the pandemic ($142 million).
The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) ‘s “Black Panther Wakanda Forever” topped the charts for three consecutive weeks, earning $45 million over the three-day weekend (November 25-27). The cumulative box office revenue was 367 million dollars, surpassing the MCU’s “So Love & Thunder” and ranked 6th in the 2022 box office ranking.
Disney’s animated film “Strange World: Another World” debuted at number two. In this work, the plants that are the energy source of the rich country of Avalonia are in danger of extinction. To save the crisis, a family of adventurers adventures in the “other world (strange world)” that spreads underground on an airship. Directed by Don Hall (“Big Hero 6”, winner of the 87th Academy Award for Best Animated Feature ), produced by Roy Conli (“Big Hero 6 “) and produced by Jennifer Lee (“Frozen 2 “) Jake Gyllenhaal (“Ambulance “) is in charge of the overall command and participates as a voice cast. It grossed $11.9 million over three weekends on a production budget of $150 million.
Coming in third place is Sony Pictures’ aviation action film “Devotion,” which depicts a pilot who fought in the Korean War. Glenn Powell, who played Hangman in “Top Gun Maverick,” and Jonathan Majors, who played “Lovecraft Country: The Terrifying Journey,” co-starred, directed by J.D. Eric Messerschmitt, who won the 93rd Academy Award for Best Cinematography, was in charge of photography. It grossed $6 million at the box office over three weekends.
Universal’s drama The Fablemans entered the Top 10 in its third weekend. This work is an autobiographical story written and produced by the master Steven Spielberg with Tony Kushner and Christy Makosko Krieger of “West Side Story.” Michelle Williams (“Venom” series), Paul Dano (“Swiss Army Man”), Seth Rogen (“Long Shot”), and Judd Hirsch (“Uncut Diamond”) ) lined up their faces.
A first-class production team has gathered, with John Williams (“Jurassic Park” series) in charge of music and Janusz Kaminski (“Saving Private Ryan “) in charge of photography. The film grossed $2.2 million over the three-day weekend, with a production budget of $40 million and a cumulative total of $3.43 million.
United Artists drama Bones and All entered the Top 10 in its second weekend due to expanded theaters. Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name ”) and Taylor Russell (“Escape Room ”) play two young men who are naturally attracted to cannibals. Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies “) also co-stars.
Directed by Luca Guadagnino, who teamed up with Chalamet in ‘Call me by your name. ‘ The film won the Silver Lion Award (Best Director Award) for Guadagnino and the Marcello Mastroianni Award (Best New Actor Award) for Russell in the competition section of the 79th Venice International Film Festival. It grossed $2.2 million at the box office over three weekends.
