The lineup for the “FORUM” and “All Night” divisions of the “2nd Niigata International Animation Film Festival” has been announced. In the “All Night Division,” a talk show will be held on March 19 between Noboru Aikawa, the scriptwriter for the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, and Gen Urobuchi, the original author and scriptwriter for Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The 2nd Niigata International Animation Film Festival will be held from March 15 to the 20th.
The “All Night Division” theme has been decided to be “historical drama anime.” The 90-minute talk show between Aikawa and Urobuchi was titled “What is the appeal of historical drama anime, and what should be made now in the heyday of fantasy?” (tentative title).
In addition, the lineup of films that will be screened all night includes “Shonen Sarutobi Sasuke,” “Sengoku Kitan the Movie: Sengoku Kitan Yotoden,” “Kikou Kiten Hiwou Senki (episode 21)”, and “Strangia Muko Batan.” In addition, the “FORUM” section, which looks at animation from an academic perspective, introduces “documentary animation,” which visualizes themes that cannot be captured in live-action as a minor feature. “Waltz on the Battlefield,” “Are Tall Men Happy?” and “Rocks in My Pocket” will be screened, and Christoph Terhechte will give a lecture.
Additionally, a symposium will be held in which doctors and manga artist Alex Thomas and professors with medical knowledge will discuss the contribution of anime to medical welfare and what can be done to create an environment for anime production in Niigata and other regions. A study session will also be held with local anime studio managers to discuss whether it is necessary.
