It has been announced that the new anime ” The Quintessential Quintuplets,” part of the anime series “The Quintessential Quintuplets,” based on the popular romantic comedy manga by Haruba Negi, will be screened in theaters for three weeks starting September 20th ahead of its TV broadcast.
“The Quintessential Quintuplets*” is a new work based on the original idea and complete supervision of Haruba, the original author. It will depict the “honeymoon arc” of Fuutaro and the quintuplets. It is described as a “500% cute romantic comedy.” A teaser visual has been released, depicting the quintuplets as high school students wearing different-colored muumuus against the vibrant Hawaiian sea as a backdrop.
It was also announced that the Nakano quintuplets, played by Kana Hanazawa, Ayana Taketatsu, Miku Ito, Ayane Sakura, and Inori Minase, will sing the opening theme song “Five Equal Smiles” and the ending theme song “Memories.” The theme song will be included in the “Five Equal Smiles EP” and the best album “TV Anime “The Quintessential Quintuplets” 5th Anniversary Best Album” to be released on September 18th.
“The Quintessential Quintuplets” depicts the story of a high school student, Futaro Uesugi, who lives in poverty, becoming a tutor to five quintuplets with unique personalities who are on the verge of failing their classes, and his struggle to lead them to graduation. It was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Magazine” (Kodansha) from August 2017 to February 2020. The comic series has sold over 20 million copies in total.
The first season of the TV anime aired from January to March 2019, and the second season, “The Quintessential Quintuplets ∫∫,” from January to March 2021. The animated film “The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie” was released in May 2022 and was a hit, grossing approximately 2.24 billion yen and attracting approximately 1.7 million viewers. “The Quintessential Quintuplets ∽,” a film adaptation of an original episode not previously depicted in the anime series, was screened in theaters in July 2023.
