It has been decided that a selection of masterpieces from the TV anime “GeGeGe no Kitaro” and “GeGeGe no Kitaro: The GeGeGe I Loved” will be aired. It will air on Fuji TV and other stations from 9:00 on April 6 April 6, 2025. A new stage performance has also been announced.
The first season of the TV anime “GeGeGe no Kitaro” began airing on January 3 January 3, 1968. The sixth season of the TV anime was aired in March 2020, and it is a popular work that has been loved for half a century. The latest work, “Kitaro Birth: The Mystery of GeGeGe,” will be released in November 2023. It is still fresh in our memory that it received high praise, such as winning the “Excellent Animation Award” at the 47th Japan Academy Awards.
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Shigeru Mizuki’s death, the creator of Gegege no Kitaro, a selection of masterpieces, Gegege no Kitaro: My Beloved Gegege no Kitaro, will be broadcast. One episode from the series that was broadcast in the past will be aired weekly.
This will be an excellent opportunity for fans of the past and the younger generation to experience Kitaro for the first time. The selectors for the selection of masterpieces are all voice actors who have played the role of Kitaro in the past. Masako Nozawa from the first and second seasons, Keiko Toda from the third season, Yoko Matsuoka from the fourth season, Minami Takayama from the fifth season, and Miyuki Sawashiro from the sixth season will each select their favorite episode. How many episodes will be broadcast? Additional selectors are planned, and expectations are high for further information.
The key visual for Gegege no Kitaro: My Beloved Gegege no Kitaro has also been released. This is a new drawing by Toko Yatabe, the character designer of “Kitaro Birth: The Gegege Mystery.” It is a fitting piece for masterpieces with all the previous Kitaros surrounding Shigeru Mizuki. It is worth noting that Kitaro looks different in each series. In addition, a new stage play, “Gegege no Kitaro 2025,” which will be performed in 2022, has been decided. It will be conducted at Meijiza from August 2 August 2 to 16th.
Aramaki Yoshihiko will continue to play the role of Kitaro, and Uesaka Sumire will play the role of Nekomusume. Otsuka Akio, who is also active as a voice actor, has been cast as Nezumio. Miya Rurika continues to be active on the stage even after leaving Takarazuka. Asano Yuko will also appear, celebrating her 50th anniversary in the entertainment industry this year. Other popular young actors who will be playing supporting roles include Hirono Ryodai, who starred in the stage play “Fullmetal Alchemist,” and Ueda Keisuke, who will appear in the stage play “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” series. [GeGeGe no Kitaro: Aramaki Yoshihiko] “I am Aramaki Yoshihiko, and I willcontinueg to play the role of Kitaro in the stage production of GeGeGe no Kitaro from the previous output.
I am honored to be able to play Kitaro again in this new production. I will put my heart and soul into playing Kitaro and do my best to convey at least some of the charm of the work GeGeGe no Kitaro.” [Rat Man: Otsuka Akio] “Who exactly is Rat Man? Simply put, he is a hybrid of a mouse and a human. In other words, he is neither human nor a monster. As such, he cannot belong to either world and continues to wander in search of his own identity.
My late father originally played the role, and I have played the role only once before, but I was reminded of the difficulty of the role and how great my father’s strong back is. I still don’t know what kind of script will be written, but the role will suit me! I will do my best, so I would appreciate your support!” [Nekomusume: Uesaka Sumire] “The stage play ‘GeGeGe no Kitaro’ is coming back…!! Amazing…!! Personally, this was my first ever challenge to perform on stage, so it is a truly memorable piece! I am very excited to see what new story will be told! It will be my second stage performance.
I will do my best! I hope you will all support me.” [Hirono Ryodai] “A long time ago, I went to the GeGeGe no Kitaro haunted house at Fuji-Q Highland, and the monster called Shu no Bon traumatized me. Since then, somewhere along the line, I became fond of monsters and learned more about them. I play Famicom games, Piko games, and Pachinko. I long for a world without exams or anything like that.” [Miya Rurika] “I am looking forward to seeing what kind of world the stage version of GeGeGe no Kitaro, which has been loved for many years, will create and what kind of original character I will become!” [Asano Yuko] “I am thrilled to have been asked to appear again following the premiere in 2022.
In the premiere, I played the Sand Hag. I look forward to seeing what kind of monster I will play this time. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate again in Mizuki-sensei’s important work.” “GeGeGe no Kitaro: My Beloved GeGeGenres” Starts Sunday, April 6 April 6, Every Sunday from 9:00 am to 9:30 am Fuji TV and others *Broadcast times vary depending on the region Stage “GeGeGe no Kitaro 2025” Performance dates: Saturday, August 2 August 2 to Saturday, August 16 August 16, 2025 Venue: Meijiza (2-31-1 Nihonbashi-Hamacho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) Organizer: “GeGeGe no Kitaro” Stage Production Committee Script and direction: Tsutsumi Yasuyuki Cast: Aramaki Yoshihiko, Otsuka Akio, Uesaka Sumire, Ueda Keisuke, Hirono Ryodai, Miya Rurika, Asano Yuko Others (C) Mizuki Productions, Toei Animation (C) Stage “GeGeGe no Kitaro” Production Committee
