On June 2, Tokyo City Keiba (TCK, Oi Racecourse) released an animated commercial made using generative AI. It was posted on official X and other sites to promote the 71st Tokyo Derby race to be held on the 11th. The commercial depicts the love story of Oi Keiko, a female college student character with a human body and a horse’s head, in the style of a trailer for an anime program.

Generative AI was used to create storyboards that determine the direction of each scene in the video and to turn still images into videos. A creative team specializing in AI led the production. Meanwhile, planning, storyboard adjustments, narration recording, and video editing were all done manually.

The commercial released this time is the second in Tokyo City Keiba’s web commercial series, “Making a horse racing commercial with generative AI.” The series aims to create entertainment that expresses the appeal of racing, with the idea that “the product of generative AI = unreality.” The first installment promoted the 70th Haneda Cup race, which took place on April 29. He posted a video of a horse running with a jumbo jet on its back.

The post introducing the second web commercial has been reposted more than 500 times as of 5:30 pm on the 2nd, attracting attention. Some users on X were reminded of the smartphone game “Uma Musume: Pretty Derby” by Cygames, saying things like, “Is this the real Uma Musume?”
