The New York Times has announced the “100 Best Movies” for movies released after January 1, 2000. This ranking was selected through a vote by over 500 directors, actors, and film industry professionals active in Hollywood and worldwide.

First place was Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite,” second place was David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive,” third place was Paul Thomas Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood,” fourth place was Wong Kar-wai’s “In the Mood for Love,” and fifth place was Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight.” All of these are highly acclaimed works that have won numerous film awards, including the Academy Awards and the Cannes Film Festival.

Among them, Hayao Miyazaki’s “Spirited Away” was selected in ninth place, making it the only animated work to make it into the top 10. Actor John Turturro commented on the film, “This is a movie that any child who gets separated from their parents in a department store or a crowd can relate to. It’s like a tight squeeze in the pit of your stomach. When you become a parent, there are so many movies you have to watch with your kids, but being able to discover something together with them is an exciting experience.”

Overseas movie fans have responded to this result on social media with comments such as, “Every scene is deep and memorable,” “No objection!” and “I watched it as a child. No-Face was scary.”
